Raipur, August 2026 : Livestock rearing and crop cultivation are transforming the livelihood of farmers in Bastar. Goat, cattle and poultry farming provide milk, meat and eggs, while aromatic rice and fresh vegetables offer both nutritious food and an additional source of income. By combining these activities, farmers can generate earnings throughout the year. In Chhindgaon village of Bastar district, a new story of hope, self-reliance and rural prosperity is emerging through the success of Raibali Kashyap, a local woman farmer associated with the Jagriti Women’s Group.
Once dependent on farming mainly to meet her family’s basic needs, Raibali transformed her livelihood after joining an integrated farming cluster. Moving beyond traditional farming practices, she diversified her land and began five complementary activities at the same time — goat rearing, dairy farming, poultry farming, aromatic rice cultivation and vegetable production.
Annual Income Crosses Rs 1.5 Lakh Through Diversified Farming
Raibali Kashyap’s integrated approach has brought a major improvement in her family’s economic condition. She currently earns around Rs 60,000 from goat rearing, Rs 30,000 from poultry farming, Rs 24,000 from vegetable cultivation and Rs 20,000 each from dairy farming and aromatic rice, including additional benefits from the rice crop.
By combining these different agricultural activities, Raibali now earns more than Rs 1.50 lakh in net annual income. The model has enabled her to reduce dependence on a single source of livelihood while creating multiple income streams from the same farming enterprise.
Integrated Farming Message Reaches Villages
Today, Raibali Kashyap has emerged as the principal economic support for her family. The increased income has helped her provide better education and healthcare for her children while enabling the family to lead a more secure and dignified life.
Her success has also become an inspiration for other farmers in the region. Raibali is encouraging fellow villagers and farmers to adopt integrated farming, diversify their sources of income and build more sustainable livelihoods.
Her journey demonstrates how combining livestock, poultry and diversified crop cultivation can strengthen rural household incomes and make farming a more dependable year-round livelihood. Raibali’s story is emerging as an example of how determination, hard work and the right agricultural approach can create new opportunities for women farmers and rural families in Bastar.
