Compensation of ₹2.14 Crore Disbursed for ASF-Related Pig Losses in Lunglei
Lunglei, March 2026: The Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Department (AH&Vety), Lunglei District, has disbursed compensation amounting to ₹2.14 crore (₹2,14,92,775) to families affected by pig deaths caused by African Swine Fever (ASF) during 2024.
A total of 3,443 pigs lost due to the outbreak were covered under this relief measure, benefiting 623 affected households. The compensation was distributed between March 6 and March 20, 2026.
The financial assistance was provided under the ASCAD (Assistance to States for Control of Animal Diseases) scheme along with the state’s share. The amount has been transferred directly to the beneficiaries’ bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.
