MKU Unveils Anti-Drone Net to Counter UAV Threats with Non-Kinetic Interception

New Delhi, July 2026 : Indian defence technology company MKU has introduced an innovative Anti-Drone Net system designed to neutralise unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) through physical entanglement, offering the armed forces and security agencies a cost-effective, non-kinetic solution against the growing threat posed by hostile drones.

The newly developed system works by intercepting drones with a specially designed net that ensnares their propellers, airframe and control surfaces. Once entangled, the UAV loses lift, stability and manoeuvrability, forcing it to descend or rendering it completely inoperable without the use of explosives or conventional weapons.

According to Janes, MKU’s Vice-President for International Sales, Karan Gupta, said the Anti-Drone Net has been specifically developed to counter a broad range of aerial threats, including commercially available quadcopters, multirotor drones, First-Person View (FPV) attack drones, small and medium tactical UAVs, and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) platforms.

He added that, depending on operational conditions and target characteristics, the system can also be employed against certain types of loitering munitions.

To address varying operational requirements, the Anti-Drone Net is available in multiple mesh configurations. It features 25×25 mm and 40×40 mm mesh variants, allowing operators to engage different categories of drones flying at both low and high altitudes. The modular design makes the system suitable for deployment across diverse operational environments, including military bases, border areas and critical infrastructure.

Gupta noted that recent conflicts, particularly the war in Ukraine, have highlighted the increasing battlefield impact of inexpensive commercial drones and FPV attack systems. These lessons significantly influenced the development of the Anti-Drone Net, with the company prioritising affordability, quick deployment and ease of operation.

Unlike conventional hard-kill systems that rely on missiles or ammunition, MKU’s solution offers a non-kinetic approach capable of countering autonomous and electronically hardened drones while minimising the risk of collateral damage.

The Anti-Drone Net is expected to complement India’s expanding counter-drone ecosystem, working alongside radar-based detection systems, electronic jammers and hard-kill interception technologies. With its scalable design and low operational cost, the system provides frontline forces and security agencies with an additional layer of protection against evolving drone threats, reinforcing India’s growing indigenous defence capabilities.
