Google Launches AI-Powered Photo Editing Feature in India

New Delhi, Jan 2026 : Tech giant Google on Wednesday rolled out a new Artificial Intelligence (AI)–powered photo editing feature in India, bringing advanced, intuitive image editing tools to Google Photos users across the country. The new feature allows users to edit their photos simply by describing the changes they want, either through voice commands or text prompts, making photo editing more accessible and user-friendly.

Announcing the launch in a blog post, Google said the feature leverages advanced capabilities of its Gemini AI model to transform user ideas into reality. “Now in India! Edit your images in Google Photos by simply asking. We’re rolling out the ability to edit your images by simply describing the edits you want using your voice or text. And, with a little help from advanced Gemini capabilities, Photos brings your vision to life,” the company said.

To use the feature, users need to open a photo in Google Photos and tap on the option labelled “Help me edit.” From there, they can describe the desired changes in natural language. For instance, users can ask Photos to remove a friend’s sunglasses, open their eyes, or make them smile. According to Google, the system uses images from private face groups in a user’s library to generate accurate and personalised edits, ensuring consistency while respecting privacy.

The AI-powered editing feature is currently available in multiple Indian languages, including English, Hindi, Tamil, Marathi, Telugu, Bengali, and Gujarati. It can be accessed on any Android device running Android 8.0 or higher, provided the device has at least 4GB of RAM.

Alongside this launch, Google has introduced three additional AI-driven capabilities in Google Photos: conversational editing, personalised edits, and a feature called Nano Banana. Conversational editing allows users to seamlessly move between tools and adjustments by simply describing what they want to achieve, such as “make the background blurry,” “remove the glare,” or “make the colours pop,” without manually navigating sliders and menus.

Personalised edits enable users to request specific changes involving people in their photos. By asking Gemini to “remove [name’s] sunglasses” or “make [name] smile,” the AI generates tailored results using images from the user’s private face groups.

The Nano Banana feature opens up creative possibilities by allowing users to apply entirely new styles and transformations to their images. By describing a desired look or style, users can dramatically reimagine their photos within seconds.

To maintain transparency in AI-generated content, Google is also adding support for C2PA Content Credentials in Google Photos. This feature attaches a permanent digital label to edited images, clearly indicating their origin and edit history, reinforcing trust and accountability in AI-assisted creativity.
