Black Box Recovered from Baramati Crash Site, Investigation Underway: Union Minister

Mumbai, Jan 2026 : Union Minister of Civil Aviation Ram Mohan Naidu on Thursday confirmed the successful recovery of the Black Box from the site of the tragic aircraft accident near Baramati that claimed multiple lives, including Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. The confirmation came in a formal letter addressed to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

In his letter, Minister Naidu extended heartfelt condolences to the families affected by the accident, describing it as an “unfortunate incident.” He assured that the Ministry of Civil Aviation is handling the matter with the “utmost seriousness” and has mobilized all necessary resources to support the ongoing investigation.

The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has launched a formal probe in accordance with the AAIB Rules. Teams from both the AAIB and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) reached the crash site promptly, securing evidence and initiating detailed examinations. The recovery of the flight data recorder, commonly known as the Black Box, is expected to yield vital information about the aircraft’s final moments and help establish the precise sequence of events leading to the crash.

Investigators are currently scrutinizing technical records, operational logs, and physical evidence from the site to determine the cause of the accident. Minister Naidu emphasized that the investigation will be “thorough, transparent, and time-bound,” adhering strictly to the Aircraft (Investigation of Accidents and Incidents) Rules, 2025.

Responding to Chief Minister Fadnavis’ concerns regarding aviation safety, the Union Minister assured that the government is taking “cognizance” of recommendations to prevent similar incidents in the future. “Necessary safety recommendations and regulatory or operational measures will be implemented in coordination with AAIB and DGCA upon receipt of the preliminary and final findings,” he noted.

The letter also acknowledged the critical role of the Maharashtra government in facilitating the investigation. The Union Minister expressed gratitude for the local authorities’ support, particularly in securing the crash site and ensuring timely access for investigative teams.

Minister Naidu concluded by committing that the Ministry will share key outcomes of the investigation with the state government as they become available, reinforcing the importance of collaboration between central and state authorities to ensure a comprehensive and effective probe into the tragic incident.

The recovery of the Black Box marks a crucial step in unraveling the circumstances of the Baramati crash, bringing hope that the investigation will provide clarity and help strengthen aviation safety protocols nationwide.
