Purandar Airport to Be Developed Keeping Pune’s Future Needs in Mind: CM Fadnavis
Review of Purandar Airport Development Works

Mumbai, Feb 2026 : With rapid growth in infrastructure, Pune city and its surrounding region have emerged as an attractive destination for investment, leading to increased industrialisation and fast-paced urbanisation. Keeping Pune’s future requirements in view, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed that the Purandar airport be developed to meet the city’s long-term needs.

The Chief Minister also instructed that land acquisition for the airport be completed within a stipulated timeframe through the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), enabling the project to cross a major development milestone. He was speaking while reviewing the progress of the Purandar airport project at Varsha, the official residence of the Chief Minister.

CM Fadnavis said that a specific mechanism should be decided to ensure the availability of funds for airport development. He directed MIDC to complete all procedures related to land acquisition. He further instructed agencies such as CIDCO and the Urban Development Department to clearly define their responsibilities and discharge them effectively during the airport’s development.

He noted that once the airport is constructed, the surrounding area will emerge as a ‘development zone’. In this context, CIDCO should ensure land availability in the region at this stage itself.

The responsibility for airport development in the state rests with the Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC). The Chief Minister directed that the company’s capacity be strengthened and that all under-construction airports in the state be handed over to MADC for development. He also instructed MIDC to issue notifications for the remaining land acquisition required for the Purandar airport and to finalise a clear funding mechanism. A proposal regarding funding for the airport development should be placed before the next Cabinet meeting, he added.

At present, joint measurement of 1,216 hectares of the proposed land is to be completed. The report of this joint measurement along with objections should be submitted to the government, the Chief Minister directed.

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Rajesh Agrawal, Additional Chief Secretary (Finance) O.P. Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary (Transport) Sanjay Sethi, Principal Secretary (Industries) P. Anbalagan, the Chief Minister’s Investment Advisor Kaustubh Dhavse, Managing Director of Maharashtra Airport Development Company Swati Pandey, and CEO of MIDC P. Velarasu. Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi participated in the meeting through video conferencing.

Villages Where Land Acquisition Is Underway

Land acquisition for the Purandar airport is being carried out in seven villages of Pune district—Vanpuri, Kumbharvalan, Udachiwadi, Ekhatpur, Munjavadi, Khanwadi and Pargaon. For this purpose, village-wise land acquisition officers of the rank of Deputy Collector and Sub-Divisional Officer have been appointed.
