India’s First Climate Week to Be Held in Mumbai
Mumbai Climate Week to Bring the Global South Together
Mumbai, Feb 2026 :For the first time, Mumbai will host the Mumbai Climate Week (MCW) from February 17 to 19, 2026. Over the course of three days, Mumbai will emerge as a major platform for climate leadership from the Global South. Heads of government, industry leaders, climate innovators, philanthropies, youth, and representatives of local communities from India and around the world will come together to move from climate dialogue to on-ground action.
Mumbai Climate Week will be anchored at a central hub at the Jio World Convention Centre, while a network of events will be held across the city in educational institutions, residential communities, and cultural venues. These programmes will also showcase practical and implementable climate solutions.
This global climate initiative is being led by the award-winning non-profit organisation Project Mumbai, with support from the Government of Maharashtra, the Department of Environment and Climate Change, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The initiative positions Mumbai as a “live test bed” for climate solutions for India and other cities of the Global South.
Speaking about Mumbai Climate Week, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that the initiative underlines India’s firm resolve to act on climate change, from the city level to the global stage. As governments, industries, financial institutions, experts, and youth from India and across the world gather in Mumbai, Maharashtra is sending a clear message of its readiness to work with all stakeholders to build a cleaner, safer, and more resilient future for its citizens and for countries of the Global South.
Project Mumbai Founder and CEO Shishir Joshi said Mumbai has always been known for its resilience and innovation, and the same spirit will be visible at scale as the city confronts the climate crisis through Mumbai Climate Week. He described it as India’s first large-scale, citizen-led climate movement, where ministers, business leaders, and experts will share the same platform with students, frontline workers, and community volunteers. He added that Mumbai will demonstrate what real climate leadership from the Global South looks like.
Hub-and-Spoke Model
Mumbai Climate Week is being organised using a hub-and-spoke model. The three-day main event at the Jio World Convention Centre will feature leadership dialogues, thematic tracks, the MCW Innovation Challenge, the Youth Green Innovation Challenge, and a solutions exhibition zone.
On the first day, a special session of the Earthshot Prize—an international initiative conceived by Prince William—will be held, focusing on nature, food systems, and people. Guided by the leadership team from Kensington Palace (UK), this initiative will be presented in a special format at Mumbai Climate Week for the first time, with the aim of scaling public participation and spotlighting climate innovators from the Global South.
Simultaneously, spoke events will be organised across colleges, neighbourhoods, and cultural institutions, including roadshows, art and media initiatives, and sustainability fairs, with the objective of integrating climate action into everyday life.
On February 18, Indian astronaut Rakesh Sharma and astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla (both Ashok Chakra awardees) will interact with school students and global leaders in a special session, highlighting the connection between space research, science, and climate responsibility.
Partnerships and Participation
Mumbai Climate Week is being implemented through broad-based partnerships. IDFC First Bank is the principal partner, Deloitte is the strategic knowledge partner, and Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) and IIT Bombay are academic partners.

National and international organisations such as Eversource Capital, India Climate Collaborative, Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation, World Resources Institute India, The Climate Group, C40, Mahindra Group, and the Indian Merchants’ Chamber will participate. Three Core Pillars and Innovation Focus
Mumbai Climate Week is structured around three core pillars—food systems, energy transition, and urban resilience. The food systems pillar is led by the India Climate Collaborative; energy transition is supported by Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation, Eversource Capital, and ISEG Foundation; and urban resilience is led by WRI India with support from the HT Parekh Foundation and the India Climate Collaborative.
Innovation will be central to the programme. The MCW Innovation Challenge, led by the National Stock Exchange of India with support from Marico Innovation Foundation, Social Alpha, and Climate Collective Foundation, will feature startups, civil society organisations, academic institutions, and climate innovators. Finalists will receive mentorship, visibility, and opportunities to present directly to policymakers, funders, and industry leaders.
Special youth initiatives will be organised in partnership with UNICEF India and YuWaah, engaging young people aged 16 to 24. Youth-led innovations in food systems, energy transition, and urban resilience will be showcased.
A dedicated exhibition zone at the main venue will feature climate solutions from startups, industries, universities, and non-profits. Organisations including the Godrej Group, IDFC First Bank, Mahindra Group, Hindustan Unilever, Mirik Tech, and several community initiatives will participate, with the exhibition open throughout all three days.
A New Climate Action Model
Mumbai Climate Week aims to establish a new, citizen-centric climate action model led by India and the Global South. Built on public–private–citizen partnerships and the hub-and-spoke framework, the conference is envisioned as an annual platform to review progress, scale successful initiatives, and develop next-generation climate solutions for India and the Global South—rooted in Mumbai.
