PM Modi, President Macron to Review India–France Strategic Partnership During Mumbai Meet

New Delhi, Feb 2026 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron are scheduled to meet in Mumbai on Tuesday to review the progress achieved under the India–France Strategic Partnership and to exchange views on major regional and global developments. The high-level engagement comes amid growing cooperation between the two nations across defence, technology, innovation, climate action and geopolitical coordination.

Prime Minister Modi will travel to Mumbai for the meeting with President Macron, who will be on an official visit to India from February 17 to 19. The French President’s visit is taking place at the invitation of the Indian Prime Minister to participate in the India-hosted AI Impact Summit 2026, a flagship global forum focused on the future of Artificial Intelligence and international collaboration in the sector.

During his stay in India, President Macron will also take part in a bilateral summit with Prime Minister Modi in Mumbai. This will be Macron’s fourth visit to India and his first official engagement in Mumbai, underlining the city’s growing importance as a centre for innovation, finance and global dialogue.

According to the official schedule, Prime Minister Modi and President Macron will hold bilateral talks at Lok Bhavan in Mumbai at around 3:15 p.m. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said the discussions would involve a comprehensive assessment of progress made under the India–France Strategic Partnership, which has steadily expanded in scope since its inception.

The talks are expected to focus on deepening strategic cooperation and exploring new areas of collaboration, particularly in emerging and future-oriented sectors such as Artificial Intelligence, clean energy, defence manufacturing, space technology, digital public infrastructure and innovation-driven growth. The two leaders will also exchange perspectives on key regional and global issues, including developments in the Indo-Pacific, global security challenges and multilateral cooperation.

Later in the day, at approximately 5:15 p.m., Prime Minister Modi and President Macron will jointly inaugurate the India–France Year of Innovation 2026. The initiative is aimed at strengthening collaboration between the two countries in research, technology, start-ups and cutting-edge innovation. The leaders will also address a distinguished gathering comprising business leaders, start-up founders, researchers, academics and innovators from both India and France.

While the Modi–Macron meeting in Mumbai will focus on bilateral ties, the broader international spotlight will be on the India–AI Impact Summit 2026, which will be held in New Delhi. Several global leaders are expected to attend the summit, including Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has said that the summit is anchored in three guiding ‘Sutras’ — People, Planet and Progress — which articulate India’s vision for responsible and inclusive international cooperation in the field of Artificial Intelligence. These principles aim to balance technological advancement with human welfare, environmental sustainability and equitable development.

The summit is designed to bring together global leaders, policymakers, innovators, industry experts and subject-matter specialists from across the world to deliberate on the future trajectory of Artificial Intelligence, governance frameworks, ethical use, and cross-border collaboration.

At the invitation of Prime Minister Modi, several other prominent world leaders are also expected to participate. These include Netherlands Prime Minister Dick Schoof, Sri Lanka President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay and Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam.

The list of dignitaries further includes Spanish President Pedro Sanchez Perez-Castejon, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic, Estonian President Alar Karis and Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo.

Other expected participants include Kazakhstan Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, Liechtenstein Hereditary Prince Alois, Slovakia President Peter Pellegrini and Switzerland President Guy Parmelin.

According to the MEA, ministerial delegations from more than 45 countries will also take part in the summit, alongside the United Nations Secretary-General and senior representatives from several international organisations, making the AI Impact Summit 2026 one of the most significant global gatherings on Artificial Intelligence to date.
