Migratory Mallard Arrives at Gidhwa Tank, Enhancing the Area’s Recognition
Raipur, February 2026 :A special migratory guest arrived at the renowned bird habitat Gidhwa Tank in Chhattisgarh in October 2025. This guest is the beautiful and attractive waterfowl, the Mallard duck, which has been recorded here for the first time.
After completing a long migratory journey, the Mallard settled comfortably in the calm and clean environment of Gidhwa Tank. The availability of safe habitat, abundant water, and natural food sources provided a favourable setting for it to stay. Gradually, it mingled with other local and migratory birds and became part of the area’s avian community.
Gidhwa Tank is well known for its rich biodiversity and holds a special place among bird lovers. With the arrival of the Mallard, the area has become even more attractive. Bird enthusiasts and nature observers are excited to spot this rare visitor and study its behaviour.
This development is evidence that the state’s efforts toward conservation of water bodies, cleanliness, and environmental protection are yielding positive results. When provided with a safe and suitable environment, migratory birds prefer to halt and reside here. Continuous conservation work, public awareness initiatives, and better management of natural resources by the local administration and environmental departments have helped make Gidhwa Tank a secure refuge for migratory birds.
The arrival of the Mallard not only reflects the natural richness of the region but also highlights the ecological significance of Chhattisgarh. This story shows that when conservation and preservation efforts are carried out consistently, nature responds with positive outcomes.
