ST Stations and Buses to Be Cleaned Every Four Hours: Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik

Launch of Advanced Statewide Cleanliness Drive on World Environment Day

Mumbai, June 2026: On the occasion of World Environment Day, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) today launched a statewide advanced cleanliness drive at the Parel bus station in Mumbai. The initiative was inaugurated by Transport Minister and MSRTC Chairman Pratap Sarnaik.

The minister stated that the objective of this initiative is to make bus stations, MSRTC buses, and driver-conductor rest rooms and toilets across the state cleaner, more attractive, and passenger-friendly.

At the event held at the Parel bus station, demonstrations of modern cleaning equipment being used for the drive were also presented. Under this initiative, major bus stations across the state and their surrounding areas will be cleaned regularly using international-standard modern cleaning machinery.

In addition, MSRTC buses, driver-conductor rest rooms, and sanitation facilities will now be cleaned every four hours as part of a structured maintenance system.

ST an Integral Part of Maharashtra’s Daily Life: Minister

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Sarnaik said that ST is not just a transport service but an integral part of Maharashtra’s daily life. Every day, millions of passengers depend on MSRTC services.

Therefore, providing them with clean, safe, and quality facilities is the corporation’s primary responsibility. He said the cleanliness drive launched on World Environment Day will make travel more comfortable, pleasant, and satisfying for passengers.

Plastic Waste to Be Collected for Recycling

On the occasion of Environment Day, plastic bottles and bags collected during the cleanliness drive at each bus station will be segregated and sent for recycling. These materials will be processed to produce various durable and useful products, the minister said.

Sarnaik emphasized that cleanliness is not a one-day campaign but a continuous process. Therefore, senior officials will regularly monitor the implementation of the drive, and no compromise will be made on cleanliness standards.

He added that each bus station’s cleanliness system will be systematically inspected, and passenger feedback and suggestions will be given due importance.

Foundation Stone for Expanded EV Charging Network

In response to the call of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, MSRTC has planned to set up an electric vehicle charging network across all 251 depots in the state.

As part of this initiative, the foundation stone for nine additional charging stations at the Parel depot was laid by Minister Sarnaik.

Senior MSRTC officials, divisional controllers, employee representatives, and other dignitaries were present at the event. After the programme, the minister inspected the Parel bus station premises, passenger waiting areas, toilets, and other facilities, and issued necessary instructions to officials.
