Rajat Patidar Hails Madhya Pradesh League as Launchpad for Emerging Talent
Indore, June 2026 : Gwalior Cheetahs captain Rajat Patidar has praised the Madhya Pradesh League (MPL) for its growing role in identifying and nurturing young cricketing talent across the state, calling it an important stepping stone for players aspiring to reach higher levels of the game.
Patidar made the remarks after leading the Gwalior Cheetahs in their opening match of MPL Season 3 against Ujjain Falcons at the Holkar Stadium in Indore. While the result of the match drew attention, the skipper focused more on the league’s long-term contribution to cricket development in Madhya Pradesh.
He said the MPL has steadily become a strong platform where young cricketers get the opportunity to perform under pressure and gain visibility among selectors and franchises.
“At least 10–11 players from here are now playing in the IPL, and around 5–6 new players have emerged through this league. Many players have not only got opportunities but have also gone on to dominate at higher levels. It’s a really good sign for cricket,” Patidar said.
The 32-year-old batter, who has established himself as one of Madhya Pradesh’s most successful modern cricketers, credited the league for strengthening the state’s cricketing ecosystem. According to him, regular competitive exposure at the domestic level is essential for producing consistent performers at the national stage.
Patidar also spoke emotionally about his connection with Holkar Stadium, describing it as a venue that has played a key role in shaping his career.
“Whenever I come to the Holkar Stadium, I always enjoy it because I started my career from here. I have a lot of memories attached to this ground,” he said, recalling his early cricketing days.
The skipper further appreciated the enthusiastic crowd turnout during the opening match of the season. He said the presence of fans adds significant motivation for players and enhances the competitive atmosphere of the tournament.
“The atmosphere was really good. It was great to see so many fans coming to watch the match. Their support motivates all the players, and I am sure the crowd will keep growing as the tournament progresses,” he added.
The MPL, now in its third season, has been steadily gaining recognition as a key domestic T20 platform in central India. It continues to serve as a bridge between district-level cricket and professional leagues such as the IPL, offering young players structured competition and visibility.
Patidar’s participation in the league also adds star value, especially after his successful leadership stint in the Indian Premier League, where he recently guided Royal Challengers Bengaluru to back-to-back title victories, joining an elite group of captains with consecutive IPL trophies.
His involvement in MPL is seen as a major boost for young players, who get the opportunity to share the field with experienced professionals and learn from high-pressure match situations.
As MPL Season 3 progresses, Patidar’s message underscores a broader sentiment—that consistent grassroots platforms like the Madhya Pradesh League are vital for sustaining India’s cricket pipeline and discovering the next generation of talent.
