Rajasthan Accelerates Water Conservation Under Jan Bhagidari Abhiyan 2.0
Jaipur, February 2026 :Union Minister for Jal Shakti C. R. Patil directed officials to ensure adequate rainwater recharge capacity under Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari Abhiyan 2.0. He urged all districts and urban local bodies in Rajasthan to prioritize water conservation works and maximize public participation.
Addressing a virtual review meeting from New Delhi on Tuesday, the Union Minister assessed the progress of the campaign and issued necessary guidelines. Praising initiatives taken under the leadership of Bhajanlal Sharma, he highlighted Dungarpur district’s community-led river conservation as a model initiative.
Ramjal Setu Link Project a Boon for Rajasthan
Patil said that inspired by the Prime Minister’s resolve to conserve every drop of rainwater for every village and farm, the state government is working with commitment to make Rajasthan water-secure. He described the Ramjal Setu Link Project as a boon for the state and noted that work on the DPR for bringing Yamuna water to the Shekhawati region under the Yamuna Water Agreement is in its final stages.
Focus on Rainwater Harvesting and Timely Targets
Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, who joined the meeting virtually from Kishangarh Airport, emphasized active participation of urban local bodies, Panchayati Raj institutions, civil society, and the general public. He directed that construction and repair of rainwater harvesting structures be expedited so that all districts meet their targets within stipulated timelines.
A People’s Movement for Water Conservation
Sharma said the Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari Abhiyan, launched by Narendra Modi, has become a people’s movement, conserving every drop of rainwater. Rajasthan achieved significant milestones in Phase 1.0, securing third place nationally, with Barmer and Bhilwara districts earning central recognition and awards.
He added that initiatives like Karmabhoomi Se Matrubhoomi and Vande Ganga Jal Sanrakshan Jan Abhiyan have helped revive traditional water sources and improve groundwater levels across the state. The second phase of the Vande Ganga Jal Sanrakshan Jan Abhiyan will commence on May 25 (Ganga Dussehra) and continue till June 5 (World Environment Day).
During the meeting, District Collectors of Dungarpur and Bhilwara presented updates on ongoing works under the campaign. Chief Secretary V. Srinivas, senior state officials, representatives of the National Water Mission, and district officials joined the meeting via video conference.
