Health Assessment Camp for Persons with Disabilities Held at Putlungasih under Project LEAP

Lunglei, February 2026: A Health Assessment Camp for persons with disabilities was organised today at Putlungasih village under Lungsen RD Block as part of Project LEAP (Lunglei’s Empowerment for Access and Equity for All Persons), an initiative undertaken under the leadership of the Deputy Commissioner, Lunglei.

The camp was conducted by a medical team led by Senior Specialist (Orthopedician) Dr Joseph Lalrindika Chawngthu. The team comprised an Audiologist, Clinical Psychologist, Ophthalmic Assistant, members of the NCD Medical Team, officials from the Social Welfare Department and staff of the Lungsen Block Development Office.

Altogether, 32 persons with disabilities from Putlungasih and neighbouring villages—Bolia, Zawlpui, Tuisenchhuah, Belthei and Kauchhuah—attended the camp. In addition to disability assessment, individuals who had not yet obtained their Unique Disability ID (UDID) cards were registered on the UDID portal to facilitate issuance.

Assistive devices to be provided through the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), including wheelchairs, hearing aids, walking sticks, crutches and other necessary aids, were identified and recommended for eligible beneficiaries. Screening for non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and other health conditions was also carried out under the Healthy Lunglei District Campaign.
