Revanth Reddy Meets Rahul Gandhi in Delhi, Discusses Telangana Development Amid Congress Controversy
Hyderabad, June 2026 : Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday met Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi and discussed issues related to the state’s development and ongoing political matters. The meeting, held in the national capital, comes at a significant time for the Congress party amid internal discussions triggered by recent developments surrounding senior party leader Meenakshi Natarajan.
Following the meeting, Revanth Reddy shared details on social media, describing the interaction with Rahul Gandhi as both inspiring and constructive.
“It is always energising and inspiring to meet my leader, Shri Rahul Gandhiji. I discussed issues relating to the development of Telangana with the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha. As always, his insightful feedback and direction will guide all of us,” the Chief Minister wrote.
The meeting has drawn attention in political circles due to the controversy surrounding Meenakshi Natarajan, the Congress party’s in-charge for Telangana affairs, whose nomination for the Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh was recently rejected. The rejection reportedly stemmed from her failure to disclose a pending case before the Telangana High Court in the affidavit submitted along with her nomination papers.
The issue soon snowballed into a political controversy after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders in Madhya Pradesh claimed that documents related to the pending case had been supplied to them by a Congress functionary from Telangana. The allegations have raised concerns within the Congress leadership about the possibility of internal sabotage.
The Congress high command is understood to have taken the matter seriously and constituted a committee to investigate whether information relating to the case was leaked from within the party. The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has reportedly directed the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) to examine the allegations and submit its findings.
Sources indicate that Rahul Gandhi has personally taken a serious view of the developments, especially because Meenakshi Natarajan was considered his preferred candidate for the Rajya Sabha elections. The episode has sparked debate within the party about discipline and internal coordination.
In a parallel development, the Congress leadership has appointed Meenakshi Natarajan as one of the party observers for Punjab, signalling continued confidence in her despite the setback in the Rajya Sabha election process.
The controversy also brought renewed attention to a legal case pending in Hyderabad. Natarajan is among seven respondents named in a private complaint filed by a woman Congress leader against another party functionary, Kumbham Shivkumar Reddy, alleging harassment and inaction by senior leaders.
Last year, the Fourth Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Hyderabad issued notices to Natarajan and other respondents, asking them to appear before the court and file counters to the complaint. The notice, which was served at the Telangana Congress headquarters, Gandhi Bhavan, resurfaced on social media shortly after Natarajan’s Rajya Sabha nomination was rejected.
The woman complainant, a former corporator who continues to identify herself as a Congress worker, expressed disappointment over the rejection of Natarajan’s nomination. She further alleged that a personal assistant of a senior Congress leader had visited the court on June 6 to obtain documents related to the case. Although she declined to identify the leader, she maintained that CCTV footage from the court premises could verify her claim.
The complainant had named Natarajan and six other Congress leaders as respondents for allegedly failing to act on her complaints against Shivkumar Reddy. In response, Natarajan and the other respondents submitted counter-affidavits. Natarajan’s legal team had earlier stated that her inclusion in the case was motivated by malafide intentions and that she had no direct role in the matter.
Against this backdrop, Revanth Reddy’s meeting with Rahul Gandhi is being viewed as an important consultation on both Telangana’s development agenda and emerging organisational challenges within the Congress party. The discussions are expected to play a role in shaping the party’s strategy in Telangana and beyond in the coming months.
