Historic Start to Green Public Transport in Rajasthan under PM e-Bus Sewa; E-Bus Trials Begin in Jaipur
Jaipur, February 2026: Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the leadership of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, the Rajasthan government continues its efforts to provide citizens with a convenient, safe, and sustainable urban transport system.

In a major step toward clean, modern, and sustainable public transportation, approval has been granted under the PM e-Bus Sewa for the operation of a total of 675 electric buses across eight major cities of Rajasthan—Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Kota, Bikaner, Bhilwara, Alwar, and Ajmer.
As per the city-wise allocation, Jaipur will receive 150 e-buses, Jodhpur and Ajmer 100 each, Kota 100, Bikaner 75, and Alwar, Bhilwara, and Udaipur 50 buses each. The introduction of these buses is expected to significantly aid pollution control, fuel savings, and the strengthening of urban traffic systems in the state.
Ahead of regular operations, trial runs of 9-meter and 12-meter category e-buses began in Jaipur on Thursday for the first batch of 150 buses and will continue until February 28, 2026. For load testing during trials, the buses are carrying containers and bags filled with soil.
Enhanced travel with modern facilities
The 9-meter e-bus has seating capacity for 25 passengers along with space for one wheelchair and the driver, while the 12-meter e-bus can accommodate 31 passengers, one wheelchair, and the driver. These buses are equipped with facilities friendly to persons with disabilities, promoting inclusive mobility. Additional features include panic buttons, passenger display boards, speakers, driver display panels, CCTV cameras, and automatic passenger counting cameras.
It is noteworthy that Jaipur City Transport Services Limited (JCTSL) had already executed a contract with the selected firm on July 7, 2025. Regular operation of these e-buses in Jaipur is proposed to begin from April 2026. The required charging infrastructure will be developed by the successful bidder as per prescribed technical standards.
The technical evaluation of the e-bus trials is being jointly conducted by expert teams from JCTSL and Central Institute of Road Transport (CIRT) to ensure compliance with all safety, quality, and operational efficiency benchmarks.
The Rajasthan government remains committed to providing citizens with safe, affordable, and environmentally friendly public transport. Through PM e-Bus Sewa, a new direction for green mobility will be established in Rajasthan’s cities, significantly improving the quality of urban life. During the trials, JCTSL Managing Director Narayan Singh, Chief Financial Officer Pankaj Kumar Gupta, along with other officials, technical experts, and eminent citizens, were present.
