Sambhar Bird Festival to Be Held on February 27

Jaipur, February 2026 : A grand Sambhar Bird Festival will be organized on February 27 at Sambhar Lake, inviting students, tourists, birdwatchers, and local communities to experience the region’s rich avian life. Renowned worldwide for its distinctive saline character and unique wetland ecosystem, Sambhar Lake is once again ready to welcome nature enthusiasts.

Organized by the Forest Department at the Interpretation Centre परिसर in Kochya Ki Dhani, the festival aims to raise public awareness about the lake’s biodiversity, wetland ecology, and the importance of migratory birds that arrive here every year.

The event will showcase a blend of technology and tradition. To encourage youth participation, various competitions will be held for school students. Theme-based stalls by the Forest Department will offer birdwatching experiences using binoculars, cameras, spotting scopes, and drones. A photo exhibition highlighting rare bird species of the Sambhar region and their life cycles will be a major attraction. Visitors will also witness a live demonstration of the traditional salt production process, offering insights into local livelihoods and heritage.

Information about the eBird app will be shared to help connect bird observation data with national and international networks. Special awareness stalls will also focus on the prevention and management of bird diseases such as avian botulism.

For school students, bird quizzes, painting competitions, and awareness activities will be organized, with winners being felicitated at the conclusion of the program. The Forest Department will also conduct a “Wetland Mitra Registration Drive”, encouraging citizens to participate long-term in lake conservation efforts. Such initiatives not only promote tourism but also strengthen data collection and conservation measures.
