Kavitha Says Arrogance and Unkept Promises Led to BRS Defeat
Hyderabad, Feb 2026 : Telangana Jagruthi president K. Kavitha on Friday launched a sharp critique of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), stating that the party’s electoral defeat stemmed from the arrogance of its leadership and its failure to deliver on key promises made to the people.
Kavitha was responding to comments made by her brother, K. T. Rama Rao, following her acquittal by a Delhi court in the Delhi excise policy case. Addressing the media, she questioned attempts to indirectly hold her responsible for the party’s losses. “Am I the reason for the loss?” she asked pointedly, rejecting what she described as an unfair narrative being built around her.
According to Kavitha, the BRS suffered defeat primarily because it failed to provide jobs and housing as promised during its tenure. She also criticised the party leadership for repeatedly giving election tickets to leaders whom she referred to as “looters,” arguing that this damaged the party’s credibility among voters. “Most importantly, the arrogant approach of the leadership pushed the party towards defeat,” she said, taking a direct swipe at the decision-making style within the organisation.
Referring specifically to her brother, Kavitha urged KTR to acknowledge reality and introspect. “You are living in denial. Accept the fact. Politics requires courage, and it also requires the ability to accept defeat,” she remarked. She added that understanding the reasons behind the electoral setback was crucial for any future revival of the party, and that corrective steps must follow honest self-assessment.
Kavitha also accused KTR of attempting to portray the recent court order as a political vindication for the party, while simultaneously shifting blame onto her. She said it was inappropriate to link her legal troubles with the BRS’s electoral performance. Recalling her arrest, Kavitha noted that neither K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), the BRS president and her father, nor KTR had held a press conference to defend her at the time. She further alleged that even the party’s official social media platforms remained silent when she needed support the most.
Kavitha was serving as a BRS MLC when she was arrested in March 2024 by the Enforcement Directorate and the Central Bureau of Investigation in connection with the Delhi excise policy case. She spent over five months in jail before being released on bail. Following her arrest and the subsequent fallout, Kavitha resigned as an MLC and later quit the BRS after being suspended for what the party described as anti-party activities.
Reflecting on her recent acquittal, Kavitha said it was “God’s blessing” that she received a clean chit just two months before the proposed launch of her new political party, hinting at her future plans while stopping short of providing specific details.
Earlier, KTR had posted on X that the Aam Aadmi Party government led by Arvind Kejriwal was brought down on the basis of the so-called liquor scam, and that the political casualty of that narrative was the BRS in both Assembly and Parliamentary elections. He made these remarks after a Delhi court discharged Kejriwal, former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, Kavitha, and 21 others in the case.
“Kavitha Garu got justice in court today, and in the same manner, every case registered against our leaders will be exposed as false and politically motivated,” KTR wrote. However, Kavitha made it clear that legal vindication should not be used to deflect from the deeper political and organisational failures that, in her view, cost the BRS its mandate.
