PM Modi, Slovak President Pellegrini vow to deepen ties in technology, energy and innovation

Bratislava, June 2026 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday described Slovak President Peter Pellegrini as a valued partner whose insights and perspectives are “stimulating and valuable,” as the two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to expanding bilateral ties across a range of sectors.

Taking to social media platform X following their meeting in Bratislava, PM Modi expressed satisfaction over the continuation of discussions initiated during President Pellegrini’s visit to New Delhi earlier this year.

“It was a pleasure to meet with you, President Pellegrini. I am pleased that we were able to continue the important discussions we had during our last meeting. Your insights and views are always very stimulating and valuable,” the Prime Minister wrote.

President Pellegrini echoed the sentiment, highlighting the cordial relationship that has developed between the two leaders. In a post on X, he said he was pleased that both sides were able to build on the “open and friendly dialogue” that began during his February visit to India.

The meeting between the two leaders took place at the Presidential Palace in Bratislava and covered a broad spectrum of issues aimed at elevating India-Slovakia relations to a new level. PM Modi noted that discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in manufacturing, transport, innovation, investment, energy and biofuels, while also identifying immense potential in digital technology and people-to-people exchanges.

The talks assumed special significance as they coincided with the first-ever official visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Slovakia, marking a historic milestone in diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Both leaders also held delegation-level talks attended by senior Indian officials, including External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.

According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs, the leaders welcomed the steady growth of bilateral cooperation in sectors such as digitalisation, innovation, defence, space technology, nuclear energy and education.

The ministry said both countries explored ways to further expand collaboration and deepen the warm and friendly relationship that has evolved over the past three decades of diplomatic engagement.

As part of the visit, PM Modi and President Pellegrini exchanged gifts and jointly visited a painting exhibition, reflecting the growing cultural and people-centric dimensions of bilateral ties.

In the run-up to the International Day of Yoga on June 21, a Yoga camp was organised at the Presidential Palace, where Slovak youth participated in Yoga sessions in the presence of the two leaders. The event highlighted India’s cultural diplomacy and the increasing global popularity of Yoga.

President Pellegrini described the visit as “a truly historic day for Slovakia,” welcoming PM Modi on the first official visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the country. He also congratulated Modi on becoming India’s longest-serving democratically elected Prime Minister, calling it a reflection of public trust, perseverance and years of service.

The Slovak President emphasised that both nations are transforming over 30 years of diplomatic relations into a practical and results-oriented partnership focused on trade, advanced technologies, nuclear energy, space cooperation and stronger people-to-people ties.

The visit is expected to provide fresh momentum to India-Slovakia relations, opening new avenues of cooperation while reinforcing strategic engagement between the two countries in an increasingly interconnected world.
