Chandigarh, March 2026 :Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Monday congratulated the people of the state on the successful completion of one year of the ‘War Against Drugs’ campaign, describing it as a decisive and historic movement towards freeing Punjab from the scourge of narcotics.
Marking the first anniversary of the mass campaign launched by the Punjab government, the Chief Minister said the initiative has fundamentally transformed the fight against drugs in the state and led to a strict dismantling of drug supply networks.
In a statement, the Chief Minister said, “The ‘War Against Drugs’ campaign has been the biggest action ever taken against drug networks in Punjab. Previous governments patronised the drug trade, which resulted in the destruction of several generations. In contrast, the present Punjab government has broken the backbone of the drug business by snapping supply lines and sending the big players involved in this heinous crime behind bars.”
Highlighting the impact and scale of the campaign, he said that a comprehensive and multi-pronged strategy was adopted to transform the fight against drugs into a people’s movement with active public participation. He added that a zero-tolerance policy against narcotics was implemented from March 2025 to February 2026.
Detailing the enforcement measures undertaken under the campaign, the Chief Minister said that a total of 36,178 FIRs were registered against drug traffickers and 51,648 smugglers were arrested. During this period, 2,277 kilograms of heroin were seized, along with over 4.9 million intoxicant tablets and capsules.
He further stated that ₹16.70 crore in drug money was recovered from traffickers, and properties worth crores of rupees linked to the drug trade were either seized or demolished. The conviction rate under the NDPS Act stood at around 84 per cent and showed consistent improvement, reaching nearly 88 per cent in 2025. This, he said, reflects strong case preparation and effective forensic support.
The Chief Minister asserted that unlike previous regimes, the present government will not allow drug traffickers to flourish at the cost of lives lost to addiction. He emphasised that exemplary and stringent action has been ensured against those involved in drug trafficking.
Reiterating the firm resolve of the Punjab government, Bhagwant Singh Mann stressed that this fight is aimed at saving the state’s younger generation and will continue relentlessly without any compromise.
