PM Modi concludes historic Slovakia visit, heads to France for G7 Summit

Bratislava, June 2026 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded his two-day state visit to Slovakia on Tuesday, describing the trip as “historic and productive,” with outcomes expected to significantly strengthen bilateral relations between the two nations.

In a special diplomatic gesture, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico personally saw off PM Modi at his hotel before the Indian leader departed for France to attend the G7 Summit in Evian.

Expressing gratitude for the warm hospitality extended by Slovakia, PM Modi took to social media platform X to reflect on the visit and its significance.

“Concluding a historic and productive visit to Slovakia. The outcomes of this visit will go a long way in strengthening bilateral ties between our nations. Stronger trade relations will greatly benefit our youth. Gratitude to the Slovakian government and people for the warmth. I am very grateful to Prime Minister Fico for coming to see me off,” the Prime Minister wrote.

The Ministry of External Affairs also highlighted the importance of the visit. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal announced that the visit resulted in the elevation of India-Slovakia relations to a Comprehensive Partnership, marking a new chapter in bilateral engagement.

During his stay in Bratislava, PM Modi held extensive talks with Slovak President Peter Pellegrini and Prime Minister Fico. Discussions focused on expanding cooperation across a range of sectors including manufacturing, transport, innovation, energy, investment, biofuels and digital technology.

Following his meeting with President Pellegrini at the Presidential Palace, PM Modi noted that both sides explored opportunities to deepen people-to-people ties alongside economic and technological collaboration.

The visit also featured cultural engagements aimed at strengthening mutual understanding between the two countries. Ahead of the International Day of Yoga on June 21, a special Yoga camp was organised at the Presidential Palace, where Slovak youth participated in Yoga sessions in the presence of PM Modi and President Pellegrini.

The event highlighted the growing popularity of Yoga globally and underscored its role as a bridge for cultural exchange and wellness.

Another highlight of the visit was an exhibition centred on the Indian city of Varanasi. PM Modi and President Pellegrini viewed artworks created by Slovak artists who had recently visited the ancient city, showcasing the cultural ties between India and Slovakia.

Sharing his experience, PM Modi described the exhibition as a “Banaras connect in Bratislava,” emphasizing the power of art and culture to bring people together across borders. He also complimented the artists whose works were displayed at the exhibition.

The visit gained further significance as Slovakia conferred its highest civilian honour, the Order of the White Double Cross (1st Class), upon PM Modi. The award marked the 33rd international honour bestowed on the Indian Prime Minister by a foreign nation, reflecting growing global recognition of his leadership.

As PM Modi departed for France to participate in the G7 Summit, the visit to Slovakia was widely viewed as a milestone in bilateral relations, laying the foundation for stronger cooperation in trade, culture, technology and strategic engagement in the years ahead.
