Lovlina, Sakshi, Priya Lead India’s Boxing Surge at Commonwealth Games 2026

Glasgow, August 2026 : India continued its impressive run in boxing at the Commonwealth Games 2026 as Olympic bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain, Sakshi and Priya secured places in their respective finals, assuring the country of at least three more silver medals.

With their victories, India now has nine boxers through to the finals across different weight categories, underlining the country’s dominance in the boxing competition.

Preeti in the 54kg category, Ankush Phangal in the 80kg division, Jaismine in the 57kg category, Arundhati in the 70kg event and Jadumani Singh in the 55kg division are the other Indian boxers who have booked their places in the gold-medal bouts.

Lovlina was the biggest Indian attraction in the ring on Friday and the Assam boxer delivered a commanding performance. She defeated Tuvalu’s Tarona Khanum Badi Pasoni Taafaki by a comprehensive 5-0 unanimous decision to enter the women’s final.

The 28-year-old had received a first-round bye and subsequently advanced directly to the semifinals without having to fight in the opening round. Having already secured a medal by reaching the last four, Lovlina produced another assured performance to guarantee herself a place in the gold-medal contest.

A Tokyo Olympic bronze medallist, Lovlina also won the gold medal at the 2023 World Championships in New Delhi, establishing herself as one of India’s leading international boxers.

Sakshi followed Lovlina’s success by defeating Canada’s Amber-Jane Wall by another 5-0 unanimous decision in the women’s 51kg semifinal.

Sakshi controlled the contest from the opening bell and consistently denied her Canadian opponent opportunities to establish an attacking rhythm. All five judges awarded the bout to the Indian, with scores of 30-27, 30-26, 30-27, 30-27 and 30-25, reflecting her clear superiority across the three rounds.

Priya then completed another successful outing for India, defeating England’s L. Kings Wheatley 5-0 in the women’s 60kg semifinal. The victory assured Priya of at least a silver medal and kept India’s strong showing in the boxing arena intact.

Sachin also advanced to the final after defeating Wales’ O. Harris-Allan by a convincing 5-0 decision in the men’s 60kg category. His victory maintained India’s perfect record on a crucial semifinal day.

Another major highlight came earlier when Arundhati produced a significant upset against the 2022 Commonwealth Games champion, further strengthening India’s presence in the finals.

The growing number of Indian finalists has transformed boxing into one of the country’s strongest medal-producing disciplines at Glasgow 2026. With nine pugilists now assured of medals, India has a substantial opportunity to add several gold medals to its overall tally.

The performances of experienced campaigners such as Lovlina, alongside emerging talents including Sakshi and Priya, have provided India with momentum heading into the final bouts.

With several gold-medal contests still to come, the Indian boxing contingent will now look to convert its impressive semifinal success into a rich haul of gold medals and further strengthen the country’s position in the overall Commonwealth Games medal standings.
