Ratna’s Future Blossoms Through Bihan Scheme – Becomes a Successful Entrepreneur Through Flower Cultivation

Raipur, March 2026 : The ‘Bihan’ (Chhattisgarh State Rural Livelihood Mission) scheme of the Chhattisgarh government is playing a significant role in making rural women self-reliant. By joining this initiative, Mrs. Ratna Majumdar, a resident of Gram Panchayat Digma in the Ambikapur development block of Surguja district, has become an inspiration for hundreds of women. Through her hard work and government support, she has not only strengthened her family’s financial condition but also established herself as a successful woman entrepreneur.

Traditional Farming Turned into a Business

Ratna Majumdar says that her father-in-law had been cultivating flowers on a small scale for many years. After joining the “Maa Mahamaya Self-Help Group,” she decided to transform this traditional activity into a full-fledged business. Through the group, she took a loan of ₹1 lakh for the first time and started flower cultivation on one acre of land using modern techniques. With dedication and perseverance, she is now successfully cultivating flowers on two acres of land.

Increased Production with Modern Techniques

Ratna has adopted modern and scientific farming practices to improve productivity. She procures high-quality plant varieties from Kolkata, which begin flowering in just 24 days and continue producing flowers for nearly three months. She also uses a drip irrigation system in her fields, which helps conserve water while ensuring proper nourishment for the plants.

Currently, she grows three major varieties of marigold flowers—red, orange, and yellow. In addition, she cultivates “cherry” crops during the winter season.

Higher Demand During Festivals Boosts Income

According to Ratna, the demand for flowers increases significantly during festivals such as Navratri, Shivratri, Ram Navami, and Diwali, allowing her to earn better prices in the market. Even when prices are relatively lower during normal days, scientific farming methods ensure that she continues to earn profits throughout the year.

She has already repaid the loan taken through the self-help group on time and is now reinvesting her earnings to expand her farming activities further.

Government Schemes Paving the Way for Self-Reliance

Ratna Majumdar credits her success to the welfare initiatives introduced by Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She says that by joining the Bihan scheme, rural women have received a strong opportunity for economic empowerment.

The financial assistance and guidance provided by the government helped her gain a new identity as an entrepreneur. Through the Bihan scheme, a new story of economic transformation is being written in rural areas, and self-reliant women like Ratna Majumdar are playing an important role in building a developed Chhattisgarh.
