India Dominate T20 World Cup Final with Explosive Batting Show Against New Zealand
Ahmedabad, March 2026 : Team India delivered a spectacular batting performance in the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 against New Zealand national cricket team at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday. The high-voltage match witnessed an extraordinary start from the hosts, who thrilled the packed stadium with a record-breaking powerplay.
Among the prominent spectators present at the stadium was Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who attended the match with his family, including his wife, son Jay Shah—the chairman of the International Cricket Council—his daughter-in-law and grandson. The family was seen enthusiastically cheering and applauding as India’s batters dominated the game.
India got off to a blazing start, racing to 92 runs without losing a wicket in the powerplay—the highest powerplay total ever recorded in the history of the T20 World Cup. The aggressive start was largely driven by a stunning innings from young opener Abhishek Sharma. The left-handed batter played an explosive knock, scoring 51 runs off just 19 balls. His innings included a series of powerful boundaries and towering sixes that put the New Zealand bowlers under immense pressure from the very beginning.
Abhishek brought up the fastest half-century of the tournament before his innings ended in the seventh over. His dismissal came as a relief for New Zealand when a mistimed edge was caught behind by wicketkeeper Tim Seifert.
After his departure, Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson continued the aggressive approach, ensuring that India maintained their scoring momentum. Kishan wasted little time settling in and quickly attacked the New Zealand bowlers, striking several boundaries and sixes, particularly against fast bowlers Lockie Ferguson and Matt Henry.
Sanju Samson, meanwhile, displayed a perfect combination of timing and power. The stylish wicketkeeper-batter brought up his third consecutive half-century in T20 World Cups, anchoring the innings with confidence and control. By the end of the 13th over, India had surged to 171 for the loss of just one wicket. Samson remained unbeaten on 69 runs from 39 balls, while Kishan supported him brilliantly with 42 not out off just 18 deliveries.
The Indian batters punished every loose delivery, particularly those that were short or wide. Ferguson endured a tough spell, including an over that yielded 24 runs, as the New Zealand bowling attack struggled to contain the relentless assault.
Despite trying different bowling strategies with both pace and spin, New Zealand found it difficult to slow down India’s scoring rate. The powerful partnerships and fearless strokeplay ensured that the hosts built a strong foundation for a massive total.
With a roaring crowd in Ahmedabad and a packed VIP gallery watching closely, India’s commanding batting display set the stage for a thrilling climax to the World Cup final.
