PM Modi Extends Birthday Wishes to Tamil Nadu CM C. Joseph Vijay
New Delhi, June 2026 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday extended warm birthday greetings to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, wishing him good health, happiness and a long life. The Prime Minister conveyed his wishes through a message on social media platform X, marking the occasion of Vijay’s 52nd birthday.
“Birthday greetings to the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru C. Joseph Vijay Ji. I pray for his long and healthy life,” PM Modi posted.
The greeting comes at a significant moment in Vijay’s political journey, as the actor-turned-politician is serving his first term as Chief Minister after leading his party to a remarkable victory in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
Born on June 22, 1974, in Madras, now Chennai, Joseph Vijay Chandrasekhar is one of the most recognizable personalities in Tamil Nadu. Before entering public life, he enjoyed an illustrious career in the Tamil film industry and earned a massive fan following across India and overseas. Popularly known as “Thalapathy,” meaning “Leader,” Vijay became one of the most influential actors in South Indian cinema over a career spanning more than three decades.
The son of renowned filmmaker S.A. Chandrasekhar and playback singer Shoba Chandrasekhar, Vijay made his screen debut as a child artist in the 1984 film Vetri, directed by his father. He later rose to prominence as a leading actor through a series of commercially successful films that established him as one of Tamil cinema’s biggest stars.
Movies such as Kushi, Thirumalai, Ghilli, Pokkiri, and Sarkar played a crucial role in shaping his career and expanding his popularity among audiences. While he initially gained recognition for his romantic and family-oriented roles, Vijay later evolved into an action hero whose films often carried strong social and political messages. His portrayals of characters fighting corruption, injustice and social inequality resonated deeply with viewers and fueled speculation about his political ambitions.
After years of public anticipation, Vijay formally launched his political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), in 2024. The party quickly emerged as a major force in Tamil Nadu politics, attracting support from youth, first-time voters and sections of the urban electorate.
TVK made its electoral debut in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections and achieved a historic breakthrough by emerging as the single-largest party in the state. The party secured 108 seats in the 234-member Assembly, dramatically reshaping the political landscape.
To form the government, TVK joined hands with the Indian National Congress and several regional allies, enabling Vijay to secure a legislative majority. He successfully contested from both the Perambur and Tiruchirappalli East constituencies and was later sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on May 10, 2026.
Since assuming office, Vijay has focused on governance, welfare initiatives and development programmes while continuing to enjoy strong public support. Prime Minister Modi’s birthday message reflects the cordial exchange of greetings often seen between national and state leaders, irrespective of political affiliations.
As Vijay celebrates another milestone in his life, supporters across Tamil Nadu marked the occasion with celebrations, social service activities and tributes to the state’s youngest Chief Minister in recent years.
