IAS Officer Trainees Visit ICAR-CIFRI During Winter Study Tour.

Barrackpore; March 2026: As a part of their Winter Study Tour, the officer trainees of the IAS Professional Course visited the ICAR–Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute (ICAR-CIFRI), Barrackpore, today 10th March 2026.

The visit provided them with an opportunity to understand the role of scientific research in advancing inland fisheries and supporting national development goals.

Dr. Pradip Dey, Director of the institute, interacted with the trainees and highlighted ongoing research activities as well as future programmes aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

Respective Head of Departments of ICAR-CIFRI delivered presentations that outlined the institute’s mandate, major research initiatives, and contributions to sustainable fisheries development. The trainees engaged actively with the scientific community, gaining valuable insights into how fisheries research strengthens livelihoods, informs policy support, and contributes to sustainable resource management.

The Officer Trainees, were given an adept knowledge on:

• Sustainable Resource Management;
• Climate Change and Adaptation;
• Role of Technology and Innovation;
• Livelihood and Socio-economic Development;
• Women’s Participation;
• Market Access and Value Addition;
• Policy Implementation and Governance;
• Extension and Capacity Building;
• Conservation of Inland Fisheries;
• Use of Drone Technology in Fisheries.

They have also visited all the major laboratories of the Institute.

The ONE Day visit proved to be an enriching experience, reinforcing the importance of evidence-based policymaking and scientific innovation in achieving long-term national objectives.

This IAS officer trainees of 2025 batch is undergoing sectoral exposure of Social, Rural & Agriculture Governance and Technology.
