Awareness Programme on Medicinal Plant Cultivation Held in Kolasib
Kolasib, March 2026: An Awareness Programme on the cultivation and management of medicinal plants was successfully organised today at Krishi Vigyan Kendra Kolasib. The programme was jointly conducted by the State Medicinal Plants Board Mizoram (SMPB), under the Nucleus Centre Grant of the National Medicinal Plants Board, Ministry of Ministry of AYUSH, and Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Kolasib.
The awareness session, which began at 11:00 a.m., aimed to educate farmers and field workers on the cultivation, conservation, and management of medicinal plants. Farmers from 11 different villages across Kolasib district actively participated in the programme.
The programme was chaired by Dr. Michelle C. Lallawmkimi, Senior Scientist and Head of KVK Kolasib, who welcomed the participants. Dr. C. Vanlalhlimpuia, District Medical Officer and Senior Medical Officer (AYUSH) at District Hospital Kolasib, delivered a speech highlighting the various initiatives undertaken by the State Medicinal Plants Board. He encouraged participants to make greater use of the facilities provided by SMPB and invited those interested in medicinal plant cultivation to approach KVK Kolasib and the Department of AYUSH at District Hospital Kolasib for further guidance and support.
During the programme, subject experts Dr. Lalchhanhimi, Consultant (Botany), and Dr. Lalrammuana Sailo, Consultant (Medicinal Plants), from the Directorate of AYUSH, delivered informative sessions on important medicinal plants found in Mizoram and explained the various projects and opportunities available in this sector.
Following the training sessions, an interactive discussion was held where farmers engaged with the experts and clarified their queries regarding medicinal plant cultivation and management.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Carolyn Zothansiami, Subject Matter Specialist (Soil Science).
