Chapchar Kut Celebrated with Grandeur at Vaihpi Field in Siaha
Siaha, March 2026: The grand festival of Chapchar Kut was celebrated with great enthusiasm today at Vaihpi Field in Siaha, drawing a large gathering of people from across the district.
The festival was presided over by District Deputy Commissioner VL Hruaizela Khiangte as the chief guest, while N. Viakhu, Chairman of the Mara Autonomous District Council, served as the host of the celebration.
In his welcome address, N. Viakhu highlighted that this year’s festival theme was “Zo Nun Ze Mawi – Inremna,” which reflects the beauty of Zo life and the importance of harmony and unity. He extended his greetings and wished everyone a joyful and peaceful celebration.
Addressing the gathering, VL Hruaizela Khiangte said that harmony is one of the most valuable virtues in the world, while lack of unity often leads to difficulties and conflict. He noted that Chapchar Kut symbolises reconciliation and unity, encouraging families and communities to strengthen their bonds. According to him, when harmony prevails within families, people can work together more effectively for the development of the state and society.
He also emphasized that the Mizo community, being a relatively small ethnic group, must remain united and work together with mutual respect. He added that although people may belong to different tribes, they should not allow such differences to divide them, but instead maintain a shared identity and unity as Mizos.
The chief guest also spoke about the importance of cleanliness and combating substance abuse, particularly among the youth. He warned that if young people fail to stay away from intoxicants, it could negatively affect their ability to contribute to the future development of the state and society. A healthy body and mind among the youth, he said, are essential for the wellbeing of the community.
He further mentioned that Siaha district had earlier received awards in city cleanliness and beautification competitions, expressing hope that the district would continue its efforts and win more such recognitions in the future.
During the festival, the “Chawimawina Nopui” honour award, given to distinguished individuals of Siaha district, was presented to Prof. Chawngkhuma Chawngthu in recognition of his contributions.
The celebration featured several cultural performances, including traditional songs, folk dances, and displays of traditional attire. Competitions and cultural showcases were also organised, along with cleanliness awareness activities and awards for outstanding achievements.
In the Chapchar Kut beauty contests, Lara J. Zonunengi from New Siaha was crowned Miss Chapchar Kut, while Joseph Lallungmuana from New Colony was named Mr. Chapchar Kut. Awards were also presented for best traditional attire. Lalhmingliana from Siaha and Lalmuanpuii from Siaha Vaihpi won the adult categories, while Lalrawngbawla from Meisatla and Leona Ramhmachhuani from Siahatla won the children’s categories.
