Mizoram Police Launch ‘Year of Discipline’ Initiative
Aizawl, May 2026: The Mizoram Police officially launched its “Year of Discipline” initiative for 2026–2027 during a programme held on Wednesday morning at G.S. Arya Mess, Police Headquarters, Khatla, Aizawl.
The event was attended by Mizoram Home Minister K Sapdanga as the chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, the Home Minister said discipline is an essential quality for police personnel. He stressed the importance of maintaining peace and security in Mizoram and urged the police force to remain vigilant and proactive in preserving harmony and law and order in the state.
He encouraged police personnel to maintain discipline in their speech, behaviour, and conduct. He also said that if the public continues to trust the police force, citizens will naturally give greater importance to following the law.
During the programme, the Home Minister also released a guideline document titled “Mizoram Police Model Guidelines for Year of Discipline 2026–2027 (Core Principles and Specific Areas of Focus),” which outlines the key objectives and areas of emphasis under the initiative.
Director General of Police Sharad Agarwal also addressed the gathering and described discipline as the core foundation of police service. He urged police personnel to carry out their duties with dedication, honesty, and commitment.
The “Year of Discipline” initiative will focus on several core principles and specific areas, including:
- Maintaining punctuality, dedication to duty, and sincere discharge of responsibilities
- Proper adherence to procedures, accurate documentation, strict compliance with laws, and timely completion of investigations
- Maintaining professional conduct, ensuring equality in dealing with the public without discrimination, and showing empathy towards vulnerable and weaker sections of society
- Promoting physical fitness and preparedness under the “Train to Excel” programme
- Conducting regular parades, drills, and inspections with proper turnout and discipline
- Ensuring cleanliness and proper maintenance of police establishments
- Careful handling and responsible use of government property
- Performing duties with honesty, integrity, and transparency
- Strengthening supervision by senior officers over the work of subordinate staff
The programme was attended by all IGPs, DIGs, AIGs, SPs, Commandants, the Principal of the Police Training School, police officers posted in Aizawl, senior officials from the Home Department, and several invited guests.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by AIGP (Headquarters) David H Thangliana.
