Iran Warns of Retaliation if Its Oil Facilities Are Attacked
Tehran, March 2026 : Iran has issued a strong warning that any attack on its oil or energy infrastructure will lead to retaliation against facilities in the region connected to American companies. The warning was delivered by Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi amid escalating tensions with the United States in the Gulf region.
Speaking in an interview with the US broadcaster MS Now, Araghchi responded to the recent US strike on Kharg Island, a key oil export hub located in southern Iran. The attack came after US President Donald Trump warned that Washington could target Iran’s oil infrastructure if Tehran disrupted shipping through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
Araghchi said Iran’s military had already made its position clear regarding such attacks. According to him, Iranian armed forces would respond by targeting energy installations across the region that belong to or are partly owned by US companies.
“Our armed forces have already said that they will retaliate if our oil and energy infrastructure is attacked. They will strike any energy facility in the region that belongs to or is partially owned by an American company,” he said.
The Iranian foreign minister also alleged that the recent US strikes on Kharg Island were launched from locations in the United Arab Emirates, specifically from Ras Al‑Khaimah and an area near Dubai. He warned that launching attacks from heavily populated regions could be extremely dangerous.
Araghchi stated that while Iran would certainly retaliate against such actions, it would try to avoid targeting civilian-populated areas.
A similar warning was issued by Khatam al‑Anbiya Central Headquarters, Iran’s main military command centre. Its spokesman Ebrahim Zolfaghari said any attack on Iran’s oil, economic or energy infrastructure would result in immediate strikes on regional facilities linked to US interests. He warned that infrastructure associated with American companies could be destroyed in retaliation.
Despite the recent strike, Araghchi said the Strait of Hormuz remains open for international shipping, except for vessels belonging to Iran’s enemies and their allies. However, he acknowledged that some ships have avoided the route due to security concerns, while many oil tankers continue to pass through the vital waterway.
Meanwhile, officials said oil exports from Kharg Island are continuing despite the attack. Ehsan Jahanian said military facilities and the airport on the island suffered damage, but no casualties were reported and commercial operations were not disrupted.
The tensions follow a major escalation on February 28 when the United States and Israel carried out attacks on Tehran and other Iranian cities. Iran responded with waves of missile and drone strikes targeting US and Israeli bases across the Middle East, intensifying fears of a wider regional conflict.
