Rajasthan Launches Statewide Cleanliness Drive Ahead of Rajasthan Day

Jaipur, March 2026: Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma on Saturday launched a statewide cleanliness pledge and awareness campaign from the historic Albert Hall Museum, promoting the message of public hygiene and environmental responsibility across the state.

At the state-level event, the Chief Minister participated in shramdaan (voluntary physical work) to emphasize the importance of cleanliness. During the programme, he distributed Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits to sanitation workers of the municipal corporation and also handed over symbolic cheques to beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) scheme. He also administered a cleanliness pledge to the people present and planted saplings at Ram Niwas Garden.

Rajasthan Day to Be Celebrated on March 19

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that Rajasthan Day will be celebrated across the state with enthusiasm on March 19. He noted that the formation of the unified state of Rajasthan took place on March 30, 1949, under the leadership of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, coinciding with the Hindu New Year’s day of Chaitra Shukla Pratipada. Following a decision taken last year, the state now celebrates Rajasthan Day according to this traditional calendar.

Sharma said the grand celebrations of Rajasthan Day have begun with the cleanliness campaign. He emphasized that the government aims to make Rajasthan not only economically prosperous but also a leading state in cleanliness and public health. Highlighting the state’s heritage of forts, palaces, lakes, deserts, and wildlife sanctuaries, he noted that Rajasthan attracts a large number of tourists and reflects unity in diversity.

Clean India Campaign Turned into a Mass Movement

The Chief Minister credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for transforming the Swachh Bharat Mission into a nationwide mass movement. He said the mission goes beyond cleaning streets and drains, as it has brought a major behavioural change among citizens.

Sharma added that the vision of Developed India 2047 and Developed Rajasthan 2047 can only be achieved when every home, street, park, and monument remains clean. Under the campaign, more than 120 million toilets have been constructed across the country, improving women’s safety and dignity. The initiative also encourages citizens to take responsibility for maintaining cleanliness in homes and public spaces.

He described cleanliness as the foundation of health, the key to environmental protection, and an essential driver of economic progress.

Special Programmes for Public Participation

The Chief Minister said the state government has organised several programmes to encourage public participation in cleanliness drives. Similar initiatives have already been conducted at Jal Mahal and Mansarovar City Park.

He also mentioned the Vande Ganga Water Conservation Public Campaign, under which more than 25 million citizens participated in cleaning water sources. During the Seva Pakhwada period, cleanliness camps were organised in around 6,000 medical institutions across the state.

Rajasthan Leads in Cleanliness Efforts

Sharma said that during the Swachhta Hi Seva 2025 campaign, Rajasthan ranked first in achieving sanitation targets. Under the rural component of the Swachh Bharat Mission, over 278,000 individual household toilets and more than 4,000 community toilets have been built. Nearly all villages in Rajasthan have now been declared ODF Plus.

He added that cities like Udaipur and Jaipur were included among the top 20 cities in the Swachh Survekshan 2024, while Dungarpur received recognition as a Super Swachh League City.

The event was attended by Madan Rathore, Gopal Sharma, Chief Secretary V. Srinivas, officials from various departments, brand ambassador of Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) K. K. Gupta, sanitation workers, and members of the public.
