Former BRS MLA Rohit Reddy Sent to 14-Day Judicial Custody in Moinabad Farmhouse Drugs Case

Hyderabad, March 15: Former MLA of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi, Pilot Rohit Reddy, along with two other accused, has been remanded to 14 days of judicial custody in connection with the Moinabad farmhouse drugs case near Hyderabad.

The police produced Rohit Reddy, his brother Ritesh Reddy and Delhi-based businessman Namith Sharma before a magistrate at Upperpally late on Sunday night. After hearing arguments from both the prosecution and the defence, the magistrate ordered the trio to be sent to judicial custody.

The development came nearly 24 hours after a major raid was conducted by the Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE) at a farmhouse belonging to Rohit Reddy in Moinabad. Authorities said the operation was carried out following specific intelligence inputs about a gathering at the farmhouse where narcotic and psychotropic substances were allegedly being consumed along with large quantities of liquor.

During the raid, police detained 11 people, including a woman, who were present at the property. According to officials, six of those detained tested positive for drug consumption. Among them were Rohit Reddy and Putta Mahesh Kumar, a Member of Parliament from Eluru in Andhra Pradesh belonging to the Telugu Desam Party.

Mahesh Kumar and seven other individuals were later released on station bail after the police served them notices as part of the investigation. However, Rohit Reddy, his brother Ritesh Reddy and businessman Namith Sharma were produced before the court for further legal proceedings.

According to police officials, Namith Sharma allegedly opened fire with a revolver during the raid. Investigators said the licensed firearm used in the incident belonged to Ritesh Reddy. During the search, the authorities seized a .32 calibre revolver manufactured in Germany along with both live and empty cartridges.

Another accused, identified as Silveri Sharath Kumar, was reportedly found holding empty cartridge cases at the scene. Police also recovered 0.26 grams of cocaine from him during the search. During interrogation, Sharath Kumar allegedly admitted to procuring the drug through an individual named Kaushik Ravi.

In addition to narcotics, the enforcement team also seized large quantities of liquor from the farmhouse. The confiscated stock reportedly included beer, whisky, vodka and several premium alcohol brands.

Following the raid, a case was registered at the Moinabad Police Station under multiple provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, the Arms Act, the Telangana State Excise Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and further action will be taken based on evidence collected during the raid and subsequent interrogations. Authorities are also examining possible links between the accused and the supply network of narcotic substances.
