Tribal Contribution to Rajasthan’s Development Is Invaluable: CM Bhajanlal Sharma
Jaipur, March 2026: On the occasion of Rajasthan Day, the Rajasthani Tribal Pride Day was organised, where Bhajanlal Sharma highlighted the invaluable contribution of tribal communities to the development of the state. He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing employment opportunities for tribal youth and promoting tribal handicrafts. The Chief Minister announced that the government would undertake comprehensive development of Beneshwar Dham.
Addressing a public gathering at Beneshwar Dham in Dungarpur on Tribal Pride Day, Sharma said that tribal communities are known for their rich traditions, unique culture, and deep connection with nature. He noted that many brave individuals from the tribal community sacrificed everything in the struggle for India’s independence, and emphasized that the development of the country and the state can only be achieved with their active participation.
The Chief Minister said the state government is continuously working for the welfare of tribal communities. As part of the celebrations marking Rajasthan Day, one day in the series of events has been dedicated specifically to honour tribal society for its remarkable contribution to the state’s development journey.
Sharma also recalled that the formation of Rajasthan took place on March 30, 1949, on the occasion of the Indian New Year, Chaitra Shukla Pratipada. The government has decided to celebrate Rajasthan Day on this traditional date each year, and this year the celebrations will be held across the state with great enthusiasm on March 19.
Describing Beneshwar Dham as the most important centre of tribal faith, the Chief Minister said the government will carry out beautification and development works at the historic site.
Tribal Handicrafts Reflect Cultural Pride
Sharma said tribal communities have always valued their freedom and never compromised on it. He referred to Birsa Munda, who ignited a movement against British exploitation at the young age of 25. He also mentioned that Narendra Modi had declared a nationwide Tribal Pride Year last year to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Birsa Munda.
The Chief Minister said tribal handicrafts represent the pride and identity of tribal society. Art forms such as Pithora painting, bamboo weaving, pottery, and wood carving are priceless cultural heritage. The government aims to ensure that these art forms receive recognition and that artisans receive fair value for their work.
Several Decisions for Tribal Welfare
Sharma highlighted various initiatives taken by the state government for the upliftment of tribal communities. He said the mess allowance in hostels has been increased from ₹2,500 to ₹3,250 per month, while similar increases have been made in sports academies. Incentive schemes have also been introduced for tribal students scoring more than 80 percent in Classes 10 and 12, as well as for those who pass professional exams such as CA and CS.
He added that 244 new Maa-Baadi centres have been established, and tribal farmers have been provided free hybrid maize seeds and mini-kits. Additionally, 530 Van Dhan Development Centres have been set up in eight districts, benefiting more than 150,000 women.
The Chief Minister also noted that athletes from tribal communities have won medals in events such as the Asian Lacrosse Games and the National Lacrosse Championship.
Special Campaign for Forest Rights
Sharma said the state budget this year includes several announcements aimed at empowering tribal communities. A special campaign will be launched to provide individual and community forest rights titles to tribal people living in forest areas. These titles will also be entered into revenue records, enabling beneficiaries to access government schemes and obtain bank loans.
He also announced that works will be undertaken at Beneshwar Dham, including the construction of Sangam and Abudra ghats and the remodeling of the Beneshwar anicut to ensure year-round water availability.
Additionally, a ₹100-crore Tribal Tourist Circuit will be developed connecting important historical and religious sites such as Tripura Sundari Temple Banswara, Mangadh Dham, Sitamata Wildlife Sanctuary, Rishabhdev Temple, Gautameshwar Temple and Matrikundiya.
Development Projects Worth ₹1,902 Crore Launched
During the event, the Chief Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for 326 development projects worth ₹1,902 crore in the tribal-dominated districts of Banswara district, Dungarpur district, Pratapgarh district Rajasthan, Salumber district and Sirohi district.
He also honoured beneficiaries under the Lakhpati Didi Samman Yojana, interacted with beneficiaries of various government schemes, and distributed scooters to girl students.
Earlier, Sharma visited the Valmiki Temple Dungarpur and Hari Temple Dungarpur to offer prayers for the prosperity and welfare of the state.
The event was attended by Tribal Regional Development Minister Babulal Kharadi, Revenue Minister Hemant Meena, Minister of State for Cooperation Gautam Dak, along with several MPs, MLAs, and public representatives.
