After receiving Degrees, Students should Contribute to Nation-Building and Become Responsible Citizens: Governor Shri Patel

Governor Shri Mangubhai Patel said that he felt immense joy in attending the 30th Convocation Ceremony of Vikram University. Congratulating all the students receiving degrees, he wished them a bright and successful future. He remarked that arriving in Ujjain brings a unique spiritual experience. He also noted that a student educated at Samrat Vikramaditya University has today become the Chief Minister of the state.

The 30th Convocation Ceremony of Samrat Vikramaditya University was held on Tuesday at the Swarn Jayanti Auditorium in Ujjain under the chairmanship of Governor Shri Patel and with Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav as the Chief Guest.

Governor Shri Patel shared that he visited Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple the very next day after assuming office as Governor and drew inspiration there to work continuously for the state’s development and the nation’s progress. Addressing the students, he said that with the convocation, they have taken a pledge to contribute to social upliftment and national unity. He urged them to uphold the values imparted by the university throughout their lives.

He emphasised that parents make great sacrifices to educate their children, and students should serve and remain grateful to their parents and teachers. The purpose of education, he said, is not merely to obtain degrees or certificates, but to contribute to the progress of society and the nation and become responsible citizens.

Ujjain Chosen by Lord Shri Krishna as His Place of Learning: Chief Minister Dr. Yadav

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav stated that Ujjain, a global centre of knowledge, science, and spirituality, was chosen by Lord Shri Krishna as his place of education. He highlighted that this land of 64 arts and 14 disciplines has been the workplace of Samrat Vikramaditya, an emblem of good governance, valour, justice and Indian cultural consciousness. He said that the 30th convocation is not merely a distribution of degrees, but the outcome of seven decades of dedication that has produced skilled human resources and outstanding scholars. The association of the university with the name of Samrat Vikramaditya has enhanced the prestige of both the institution and its students.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav congratulated students receiving Doctor of Literature (D.Litt.) degrees, gold medals and other academic degrees. He described the convocation as not the end of education, but the beginning of a new journey of lifelong learning and a significant turning point in life. He expressed confidence that the students would contribute to the holistic development of the state and the nation while fulfilling their duties with dedication and commitment.

University Achievements and Announcements

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that the tradition of convocation ceremonies was established to confer degrees with dignity upon students completing their education. He stated that the university has been associated with eminent personalities such as renowned poet Shri Shivmangal Singh Suman and Padma Shri Vishnu Shridhar Wakankar.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav highlighted that the university has been a pioneer in innovation and the introduction of modern disciplines such as agricultural studies and dairy technology. The Chief Minister announced financial assistance of ₹51 lakh for equipment, along with the provision of five drones and one bus for educational tours. He further stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Madhya Pradesh is progressing steadily on the path of development. The previous year was observed as the Year of Investment and Employment, while 2026 is being celebrated as the Year of Farmers’ Welfare. Ujjain will host the grand Simhastha in 2028, and preparations are already underway to ensure smooth arrangements, including cleanliness, digital assistance, and convenient movement for devotees. He also extended his greetings on Navratri and Gudi Padwa to all present.

Inaugurations and Ceremony Highlights

Governor Shri Patel and Chief Minister Dr. Yadav inaugurated a newly constructed Agricultural Studies building built at a cost of ₹17 crore and a renovated Bharthari Hostel under the MERU project. They also released four books authored by university students, including Ecos and Expressions, Contours of Thought, and Ragatmika. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Arpan Bhardwaj administered the oath to the graduating students. A total of 74 students were awarded degrees, 107 received gold medals, and one research scholar was conferred with a D.Litt. degree.

Academic Procession and Cultural Ceremonies

The ceremony began with a group photograph of the Governor, Chief Minister, Executive Council members, and faculty heads, followed by an academic procession. Dignitaries, including MP Shri Anil Firojia, MLA Shri Anil Jain Kaluheda and Municipal Sabhapati Smt. Kalavati Yadav was present.

Floral tributes were offered at the statue of Samrat Vikramaditya in the university परिसर, and NCC cadets presented a guard of honour. The ceremony commenced with ‘Vande Mataram’ and the national anthem, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp before the idol of Maa Vagdevi.

Visits Exhibition and Felicitations

The Governor, Chief Minister, and other dignitaries visited the handloom exhibition, where handcrafted items were presented to them by Acharya Vidyasagar Peeth.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Arpan Bhardwaj and Registrar Dr. Anil Kumar Sharma welcomed the dignitaries with bouquets, a Parijat sapling, a shawl, a coconut and mementos. The Vice-Chancellor also delivered the welcome address and presented a detailed report on the university’s achievements over the past year.

The event was conducted by Sushri Avani Kothari and Sushri Manya Garhwal, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Registrar Dr. Anil Kumar Sharma. The ceremony concluded with the national song and anthem, followed by the departure of the academic procession.

Members of the University Executive Council, faculty heads, teachers, guest faculty, graduating students, and their parents were present at the ceremony.
