PM Modi Discusses West Asia Crisis with Kuwait Crown Prince, Stresses Maritime Security
New Delhi, March 2026 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday held a telephonic conversation with Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, focusing on the rapidly evolving situation in West Asia and expressing shared concerns over recent developments in the region.
During the discussion, Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s strong condemnation of any attacks on Kuwait’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He also extended his greetings to the Kuwaiti leadership ahead of the upcoming festival of Eid and appreciated the continued support extended by Kuwait towards the Indian community residing in the country.
In a statement shared on social media, Modi said both leaders exchanged views on the unfolding crisis and emphasised the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the region. A key area of focus during the conversation was the need to ensure safe and uninterrupted navigation through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, which remains critical for global energy supplies.
The Prime Minister highlighted that safeguarding maritime routes is a top priority for India, especially in light of the heightened tensions that have disrupted shipping lanes and raised concerns over energy security worldwide.
Both leaders agreed that sustained diplomatic engagement and dialogue are essential to de-escalate tensions and restore stability in West Asia. Modi also thanked the Kuwaiti Crown Prince for ensuring the safety and well-being of the large Indian diaspora in Kuwait, acknowledging its importance in bilateral ties.
The conversation comes amid escalating hostilities in the region following joint US-Israeli strikes on Iran that began on February 28, triggering a series of retaliatory drone and missile attacks by Iran targeting US and Israeli interests, as well as allied infrastructure across West Asia.
In recent days, Prime Minister Modi has actively engaged with several global and regional leaders, underlining India’s diplomatic outreach during the crisis. He has spoken with leaders from key countries including the United Arab Emirates, Israel, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Bahrain, Oman, and Qatar, reflecting India’s proactive approach in addressing the unfolding situation.
A day earlier, Modi also held discussions with Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, where both sides reviewed the regional security scenario and reiterated their commitment to peace. The Prime Minister strongly condemned attacks on the UAE that resulted in civilian casualties and damage to infrastructure.
Both India and the UAE emphasised the importance of ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and agreed to continue working closely to promote peace, security, and stability in the region.
As tensions continue to simmer, India remains in close contact with regional governments and key international partners, advocating dialogue and diplomatic solutions to prevent further escalation and ensure stability in one of the world’s most critical geopolitical regions.
