India Sends Emergency Medical Aid to Afghanistan After Kabul Hospital Attack
New Delhi, March 2026 : India has stepped forward with humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan, delivering a 2.5-tonne consignment of emergency medical supplies to support victims of a recent deadly attack on a hospital in Kabul. The aid includes essential medicines, medical disposables, kits, and equipment aimed at facilitating the treatment and recovery of those injured in the incident.
The consignment was dispatched in response to the devastating strike on March 16, which targeted the Omid Addiction Treatment Hospital located in Kabul’s Pul-e-Charkhi area. The attack resulted in significant casualties, with over 400 people reported dead and more than 250 injured, making it one of the deadliest assaults on a civilian medical facility in recent times.
Confirming the development, Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, stated that India remains committed to supporting Afghanistan during this challenging period. He emphasized that the medical supplies were sent to ensure timely treatment and aid in the swift recovery of those affected by the tragic incident.
India strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a heinous and unjustifiable act of violence against civilians. The government expressed deep concern over the targeting of a hospital, stressing that such facilities cannot under any circumstances be considered legitimate military targets. Officials noted that the scale of destruction and loss of life underscores the severity of the incident.
In its official response, the Ministry of External Affairs criticized the justification of the attack as a military operation, calling it an attempt to mask a large-scale civilian tragedy. India characterized the strike as a blatant violation of Afghanistan’s sovereignty and warned that such actions pose a serious threat to regional peace and stability.
The ministry further highlighted that the timing of the attack during the holy month of Ramadan makes it even more condemnable, as the period is traditionally associated with peace, reflection, and compassion. It stated that no moral, legal, or religious justification exists for targeting hospitals and innocent patients.
Reiterating its stance, India urged the international community to take serious note of the incident and hold those responsible accountable. It called for immediate steps to ensure that such attacks on civilian infrastructure are not repeated and that the safety of non-combatants is upheld.
India also extended its deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wished a speedy recovery to the injured. The government reaffirmed its solidarity with the people of Afghanistan and reiterated its continued support for the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
This humanitarian assistance reflects India’s long-standing commitment to aiding Afghanistan in times of crisis, reinforcing its role as a responsible regional partner dedicated to peace, stability, and human welfare.
