Convocation Marks New Beginning; Ayurveda is a Holistic Science of Life: Governor Bagde
Jaipur, March 2026: The ninth convocation ceremony of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Rajasthan Ayurved University was held with Governor and Chancellor Haribhau Bagde emphasizing that a convocation is not merely about awarding degrees but marks the beginning of a new phase in students’ lives.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor said that this moment signifies the transition of students into responsible individuals ready to apply their knowledge for the betterment of society and the nation. He described the convocation as an opportunity for self-reflection, where graduates commit to putting their learning and skills into meaningful practice.
Explaining the essence of Ayurveda, Bagde said that “Ayurveda” combines ‘Ayu’ (life) and ‘Veda’ (science), making it a comprehensive science of life. He highlighted that Ayurveda is based on the balance of the five elements—earth, water, fire, air, and space—and the three doshas: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. It is not just a system of medicine but a philosophy that ensures holistic well-being by balancing the body, mind, intellect, and soul.
The Governor noted that ancient Indian scriptures contain rich references to medical science and that Ayurveda holds a significant place in India’s knowledge tradition. He said Ayurveda remains highly relevant in addressing modern lifestyle diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and mental stress. Urging students to adopt a spirit of service, he encouraged them to follow the principle of “service to humanity is service to God” and contribute actively to improving public health.
He also appreciated the university’s efforts in education, research, and community service, stressing the need to integrate traditional Ayurvedic knowledge with modern scientific approaches. He called for evidence-based research, innovation, and global promotion of AYUSH systems. He praised initiatives such as rural medical camps, Swarna Prashan programmes, collaborations with international institutions, and the development of the “Dhanvantari Medicinal Garden.”
Highlighting the impact of the National Education Policy 2020, the Governor said it has paved the way for reviving India’s traditional knowledge systems. He urged students to modernize Ayurvedic knowledge and contribute to nation-building. On the occasion, he also inaugurated the university’s drug testing laboratory.
Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat described the convocation as a celebration of India’s rich knowledge heritage and its resurgence. He said the world today looks towards India’s science, philosophy, and traditional wisdom with renewed hope, and acknowledged the role of families in the students’ achievements.
Deputy Chief Minister Premchand Bairwa said Ayurveda is an eternal part of India’s heritage that gives meaning to life. He noted the growing global acceptance of traditional systems like Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, and Homeopathy, adding that India is emerging as a global hub for traditional medicine under the leadership of Narendra Modi.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Jogaram Patel said Ayurveda is a powerful medium for holistic health, based on the balance of body, mind, and soul. He added that Rajasthan is emerging as an AYUSH hub, with Jodhpur gaining a distinct identity in this field.
During the ceremony, 16 students were awarded PhDs in Ayurveda, 133 received MD/MS degrees in Ayurveda, 12 were awarded MD/MS in Homeopathy, and a total of 1,230 students received undergraduate degrees. Six gold medals were also conferred to meritorious students.
