Iran Calls for Unity Among Muslim Nations Amid Rising Tensions
Tehran, March 2026 : Masoud Pezeshkian has emphasised that Iran does not seek conflict with fellow Muslim nations, calling for unity and regional cooperation amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
In a message marking Eid al-Fitr and Nowruz, Pezeshkian extended greetings while addressing the current geopolitical climate. He stressed that Iran has no intention of engaging in disputes or war with Islamic countries, describing them as “brothers” and underlining the importance of maintaining solidarity within the Muslim world.
The Iranian President attributed recent strains between Iran and certain Arab nations to the actions of the United States and Israel, which he said had contributed to instability in the region. Despite the tensions, he reiterated Tehran’s willingness to resolve differences through dialogue and cooperation.
Pezeshkian proposed the creation of a regional security framework led by Muslim nations, suggesting that countries in the Middle East could collectively manage their security, economic, cultural, and political relations without external intervention. He argued that such a structure would promote long-term peace and stability, reducing reliance on foreign powers.
“We do not need the presence of outsiders in the region,” he said, advocating for an “Islamic assembly” that would enable regional nations to address shared challenges independently. His remarks reflect a broader push by Iran to reposition itself as a proponent of regional unity despite ongoing conflicts.
On the issue of nuclear development, Pezeshkian firmly denied that Iran seeks to acquire nuclear weapons. He cited a religious decree issued by Ali Khamenei prohibiting the development of atomic arms, asserting that no Iranian authority is permitted to pursue weapons of mass destruction. He also accused the United States of attempting to portray Iran as a nuclear threat to the international community.
The President’s comments come against the backdrop of heightened hostilities following recent joint strikes by the United States and Israel on Iranian targets, including in Tehran. The attacks reportedly resulted in significant casualties, including senior officials and civilians, prompting Iran to retaliate with missile and drone strikes targeting Israeli positions and US-linked assets in the region.
As tensions continue to simmer, Pezeshkian’s message signals an effort to balance firm opposition to external pressures with an appeal for unity among Muslim nations, positioning diplomacy and regional cooperation as the preferred path forward.
