Bastar to Host State’s Biggest Heritage Marathon: CM Vishnu Deo Sai
Raipur, March 2026 : In a major push to promote sports, tourism, and cultural heritage, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has announced the आयोजन of the state’s largest-ever running event — the ‘Bastar Heritage Marathon 2026’. Scheduled for March 22, the marathon will be held under the theme “Bastar Daudega, Desh Judega” (Bastar will run, the nation will unite).

The event will begin from the historic Lalbagh Ground in Jagdalpur and conclude at the globally renowned Chitrakote Falls. Participants will run through scenic landscapes, offering a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural richness that defines the Bastar region.
Describing the marathon as more than just a sporting event, Sai said it represents a celebration of Chhattisgarh’s traditions, environment, and community spirit. He emphasised that the initiative aims to promote fitness while positioning Bastar prominently on the national and international tourism map. According to him, such events will also create employment opportunities, encourage youth participation, and accelerate regional development.
The marathon will feature multiple categories, including a full marathon (42 km), half marathon (21 km), 10 km run, and a 5 km fun run. This structure ensures participation from people across age groups and fitness levels. To further incentivise participation, a total prize pool of ₹25 lakh has been announced. While the registration fee is set at ₹299, participants from all seven districts of Bastar division can register free of cost.
Organisers have made extensive arrangements to ensure safety and convenience. Refreshment points will be set up at regular intervals, providing water and energy drinks. Medical teams, emergency services, and efficient route management systems will also be deployed throughout the course. Every participant will receive a finisher medal, e-certificate, and professional photographs. To enhance the experience, activities like Zumba sessions and live DJ performances will also be आयोजित.
The marathon carries the theme “Run for Nature, Run for Culture,” highlighting Bastar’s rich tribal heritage and ecological diversity. It aims to showcase the region’s identity to a wider audience, turning it into a major attraction for athletes, tourists, and cultural enthusiasts.
Chief Minister Sai noted that the initiative aligns with the vision of Narendra Modi, particularly campaigns like “Fit India” and “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat,” which promote fitness and national unity while celebrating India’s diversity.
He invited athletes, fitness enthusiasts, and tourists from across the country to participate in the marathon, encouraging them to experience Bastar’s unique culture and natural charm. The event is expected to significantly boost local businesses, artisans, and small enterprises, making it a landmark step toward transforming Bastar into a premier sports and tourism destination.
