PM Modi to Hold Virtual Meet with CMs on West Asia Crisis, Focus on Coordinated Response
New Delhi, March 2026: Narendra Modi will interact with Chief Ministers on Friday via video conferencing to review preparedness and response strategies in light of the ongoing West Asia conflict. The meeting aims to ensure coordinated efforts between the Centre and states under the spirit of “Team India,” as geopolitical tensions continue to escalate.
According to officials, the interaction will provide a platform for the Prime Minister to brief state leaders on the evolving situation and its potential impact on India. It is also expected to facilitate consensus-building on key policy responses as global repercussions of the conflict become increasingly visible.
However, Chief Ministers from election-bound states will not participate in the meeting due to the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct. Instead, a separate interaction for Chief Secretaries of those states will be conducted through the Cabinet Secretariat to ensure administrative coordination without violating election norms.
The high-level consultation follows a series of steps taken by the Union government to address the crisis. Earlier this week, an all-party meeting was convened at the Parliament House complex to discuss the situation in West Asia and its implications for India. The meeting came shortly after the Prime Minister addressed Parliament, outlining the government’s approach to managing the fallout of the conflict.
In his address, Modi announced the formation of seven empowered groups tasked with developing strategies in critical sectors such as fuel supply, logistics, fertilisers, and broader supply chains. These groups are expected to play a crucial role in mitigating disruptions caused by the ongoing tensions involving Iran, Israel, and the United States.
The all-party meeting was chaired by Rajnath Singh and attended by senior leaders including Amit Shah, S. Jaishankar, Hardeep Singh Puri, and Kiren Rijiju, along with representatives from various political parties.
Following the meeting, Rijiju stated that the government addressed all concerns raised by opposition leaders and appreciated their constructive participation. He noted that opposition parties have extended their support to the government’s efforts in dealing with the evolving crisis.
Leaders from multiple parties, including Congress, CPI(M), and Samajwadi Party, also attended the meeting, reflecting a broad-based political engagement on the issue.
The urgency of these consultations comes amid rising instability in West Asia, which has begun to disrupt key maritime routes and raised concerns about the safety of Indian citizens residing in Gulf countries. With potential implications for energy security and trade, the Centre is working closely with states to ensure preparedness at all levels.
The upcoming interaction between the Prime Minister and Chief Ministers is expected to further strengthen this coordinated response framework as India navigates the challenges arising from the crisis.
