Paklu Markam Becomes a Prosperous Farmer by Adopting Integrated Farming Along with Fish Farming
Gets New Direction from Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana
Raipur, March 2026 : Effective efforts are being made to strengthen rural livelihoods through various schemes of the Fisheries Department as well as state and central governments. Benefiting from these initiatives, young farmer Paklu Markam from Palli village in Kondagaon district has set a new example of success through his hard work and dedication.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana, Markam constructed a pond on his land and began fish farming. Today, he is not only engaged in fish farming but has also adopted an integrated farming system, earning an annual income of around Rs 6 lakh. He shared that in 2023, he received a subsidy of Rs 6.6 lakh for pond construction, out of a total cost of Rs 11 lakh under the scheme.
Currently, he owns three ponds where he cultivates various fish species such as Rohu, Catla, Common Carp, Grass Carp, and Pangasius. Alongside fish farming, he has also diversified into poultry farming, piggery, and agriculture. In poultry, he raises Sonali and indigenous breeds, as well as the Aseel breed, which is known for cockfighting and is significantly more valuable than regular chickens.
In addition, Markam owns around 20 pigs and rears duck varieties such as Khaki Campbell, Indian Runner, and Moti, which provide him with additional sources of income. He is also engaged in crop cultivation, including maize and other crops.
By integrating multiple agricultural activities, Markam has successfully expanded his income streams, leading to a significant improvement in his financial condition. Today, he has become self-reliant and serves as an inspiration for other farmers in the region.
