Telangana on Alert as CM Revanth Reddy Directs Precautionary Measures Amid Heavy Rain Forecast

Hyderabad, May 2026 : Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday directed officials across the state to remain on high alert following the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) orange warning for several districts anticipating heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds.

The Chief Minister held a review of the evolving weather situation and instructed district administrations and relevant departments to take all precautionary measures to minimise disruption and protect agricultural produce, especially paddy stocks stored at procurement centres.

Revanth Reddy specifically directed officials to strengthen arrangements at paddy procurement centres and speed up procurement operations to avoid losses to farmers due to unexpected rains. He stressed the need for adequate tarpaulin covers at all centres to prevent stored paddy from getting wet during rainfall.

Officials were also instructed to shift unused tarpaulins from procurement centres where operations had already been completed to locations still handling large quantities of paddy. The Chief Minister said protecting farmers’ produce should remain the administration’s top priority during the ongoing weather fluctuations.

In view of forecasts predicting strong surface winds and thunderstorms, Revanth Reddy appealed to people to remain cautious while travelling and avoid venturing outdoors unnecessarily during periods of intense weather activity.

The warning came even as several parts of Telangana, including Hyderabad, witnessed rainfall on Tuesday night, bringing much-needed relief from the intense heatwave conditions that had prevailed over the last few days.

The showers, accompanied by gusty winds, led to a noticeable drop in temperatures and pleasant weather conditions across many districts of the state.

The IMD issued an orange alert for multiple districts, warning of light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and wind speeds ranging between 30 and 40 kilometres per hour.

Districts likely to experience rainfall activity include Hyderabad, Jangaon, Mahabubabad, Mahabubnagar, Medak, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Nagarkurnool, Nalgonda, Narayanpet, Rangareddy, Sangareddy, Siddipet, Suryapet, Vikarabad, Wanaparthy, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Bhadradri Kothagudem and Khammam.

According to data released by the Telangana Development Planning Society, Devarakadara in Mahabubnagar district recorded the highest rainfall in the state during the 12-hour period ending at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, receiving 136.6 mm of rain.

Other areas in Mahabubnagar district also witnessed substantial rainfall, with Chinna Chintha Kunta recording 47.8 mm and Serivenkatapur receiving 34.3 mm.

Mujahidpur in Vikarabad district registered 25.3 mm rainfall, while Watpalle in Sangareddy district recorded 17.3 mm.

Within Greater Hyderabad limits, Vinayak Nagar Ward Office in Malkajgiri received the highest rainfall at 21.3 mm, followed by the BHEL factory area which recorded 17 mm.

Several localities across Hyderabad and Secunderabad witnessed light to moderate rainfall, including Balanagar, Bowenpalli, Ameerpet, Kukatpally, KPHB Colony, Chanda Nagar, Miyapur, Gachibowli, Lakdikapul, Dilsukhnagar, LB Nagar, Vanasthalipuram and Rajendranagar.

Officials said emergency teams and disaster response personnel have been kept on standby in vulnerable areas as the state braces for further rainfall activity over the next two days.
