Actor Rahul Arunoday Banerjee Dies at 42; Mamata Banerjee Expresses Shock and Grief
Kolkata, March 2026 — Bengali film and television actor Rahul Arunoday Banerjee passed away on Sunday at the age of 42, leaving the industry and his admirers in deep shock. The tragic incident occurred earlier in the day while he was shooting for a television project.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed profound grief over his sudden demise. In a message shared on social media, she said she was “stunned, heartbroken, and grief-stricken” by the loss of the young and talented actor. She described him as a performer and a person she deeply admired and called his passing an “irreparable loss” to both the Bengali film industry and television world.
Rahul is survived by his mother, his wife Priyanka Sarkar, and their 13-year-old son.
According to reports, the actor met with an accident while filming near Talsari beach in Odisha. After completing a shoot, he was reportedly traveling on a speedboat when he accidentally fell into the water. He was later rushed to a hospital in Digha, in West Bengal’s East Midnapore district, where doctors declared him dead.
The incident occurred during the shooting of a television serial titled “Bhole Baba Paar Karega.” Authorities confirmed that he was brought to the hospital from the nearby coastal location but could not be revived.
Filmmaker and Trinamool Congress MLA Raj Chakraborty, who directed Rahul in his breakthrough film Chirodini Tumi Je Amar, said he was at a loss for words. Calling Rahul a highly talented actor and a gifted writer, he said the news was hard to believe and deeply upsetting.
Rahul rose to fame with his role in Chirodini Tumi Je Amar in 2008, which became a major success and established him as a prominent face in Bengali cinema. He later appeared in several notable films, including Zulfiqar, Byomkesh Gotro, and Biday Byomkesh. His work extended to television as well, where he gained popularity through serials such as “Horogouri Pice Hotel” and “Mohona.”
Known for his versatility and strong screen presence, Rahul remained active in the entertainment industry for years, earning appreciation for both his film and television performances.
His untimely death has sent shockwaves through the Bengali entertainment fraternity, with colleagues and fans mourning the loss of a talented artist whose journey was cut short.
