State Launches Multi-Pronged Crackdown on Drugs and Narcotics
Jaipur, March 2026: A high-level review meeting of the State-Level Narcotics Coordination Centre (NCORD) was held on Monday at the State Secretariat under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary V. Srinivas. Emphasising the need for collective action, the Chief Secretary said that preventing the spread of drugs and narcotic substances requires joint efforts and active public participation. He noted that only through community involvement can the menace of drugs be effectively defeated.
The Chief Secretary directed that all seized drugs and narcotic substances stored in police station malkhanas across the state be destroyed in accordance with rules through a state-wide campaign from April 1 to April 30. He also instructed that vehicles used in drug trafficking be disposed of as per legal provisions.
During the meeting, he directed the Agriculture Department to ensure that individuals found guilty of illegally cultivating narcotic crops on revenue, agricultural, or forest land be deprived of benefits under government welfare schemes. District Collectors were instructed to fix accountability among subordinate staff to prevent illegal cultivation. The Home Department was asked to issue necessary circulars to the Forest and Revenue Departments for strict action in this regard.
Highlighting the need for a comprehensive approach, the Chief Secretary called for a multi-pronged crackdown to curb drug trafficking and usage in the state. He directed all departments and district administrations to work in close coordination and maintain strict vigilance. Departments of School Education, College Education, and Social Justice and Empowerment were instructed to run large-scale awareness campaigns against substance abuse. The Information and Public Relations Department was asked to widely publicise de-addiction initiatives to educate the public about the harmful effects of drugs.
To assess preparedness, the Chief Secretary personally called the helpline number 1933 of the Narcotics Prohibition Intelligence Centre (MANAS) to check its responsiveness. He directed the Home Department to ensure wide publicity of the helpline number in schools, colleges, and coaching centres.
Further, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) was instructed to strengthen measures to curb drug trafficking through rail transport, while the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) under the Customs Department was asked to report on cases detected so far. The Home Department was directed to collect monthly reports from all departments, and the Narcotics Department was asked to enhance intelligence sharing.
The Border Security Force (BSF) was instructed to prevent cross-border drug trafficking using drones in international border districts and to identify key hotspots near border areas.
The meeting was attended by Director General of Police Rajeev Kumar Sharma, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Bhaskar A. Sawant, and other senior officials from concerned departments.
