Patna, June 2026: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the project for upgrading the Khagaria–Purnea section of National Highway-31 and National Highway-231 into a four-lane highway in Bihar.

The 143.529-km-long project will be developed at a cost of Rs 3,936.05 crore under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model.

Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the approval, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary said the decision is a historic one that will provide a new impetus to Bihar’s development.

The Chief Minister stated that Bihar has continuously benefited from the guidance and support of Prime Minister Modi. He noted that several important projects undertaken by the Central Government have already been completed in the state, benefiting the people of Bihar, while work on many other major projects is progressing rapidly.

He said the four-laning of the Khagaria–Purnea section will significantly strengthen connectivity in the Seemanchal and Kosi regions. The project will play an important role in strengthening the state’s road infrastructure, accelerating regional economic development, and improving connectivity among different parts of Bihar.

According to the Chief Minister, the road upgrade will make transportation smoother and reduce travel time considerably. It will also promote regional connectivity and contribute to social and economic development in the region.

He further said that the project will facilitate faster movement of both passengers and goods, thereby boosting trade, agriculture, industry, and tourism activities.
