Iran Rejects US Peace Plan, Demands Permanent End to Conflict

Tehran, April 2026: Iran has rejected a US-proposed 15-point peace plan, instead putting forward its own conditions for a permanent resolution to the ongoing conflict, according to the state-run Islamic Republic News Agency.

Tehran submitted a counter-response in the form of a 10-point document, citing past experiences as the reason for refusing a temporary ceasefire. Iranian officials argued that short-term truces have historically allowed opposing forces to regroup and intensify hostilities later.

The response outlines several key demands, including a complete end to regional conflicts, guaranteed safe passage through the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz, reconstruction of war-affected areas, and the lifting of international sanctions imposed on Iran.

Iran’s proposal comes amid heightened tensions following recent military developments in its western and central regions. Reports also اشاره that a US heliborne operation did not achieve its intended objectives, further complicating diplomatic efforts. Meanwhile, Donald Trump has extended his earlier deadline for Iran to reach an agreement, while also softening some of his earlier threats.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Trump described Iran’s response as a “significant step,” but maintained that it fell short of US expectations. “It’s not good enough,” he said, indicating that negotiations remain far from a breakthrough.

Echoing the government’s stance, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei dismissed the idea of a ceasefire, arguing that it would only give adversaries time to reorganize and carry out further attacks. He added that “no sane person” would agree to such terms under the current circumstances.

Earlier reports in late March indicated that Washington had conveyed its 15-point peace proposal to Tehran through Pakistan, aiming to de-escalate the conflict. However, Iran rejected the plan, calling it “excessive and disconnected from battlefield realities.”

Iran has also laid down strict preconditions for peace, including an end to US and Israeli military actions, mechanisms to prevent future aggression, compensation for war damages, and recognition of its sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz.

The conflict escalated on February 28 following joint US-Israel strikes on Iranian cities, triggering retaliatory missile and drone attacks by Tehran across the region.
