50% Cut in Land Registration Fees for Women Receives Widespread Praise

Raipur, April 2026 : A landmark decision by the state Cabinet to reduce land registration fees by 50 per cent for properties registered in the name of women has received widespread appreciation across the district and the state. The move is being seen as a significant step towards promoting property ownership among women and strengthening their economic independence.

The government believes that the reduction in registration charges will encourage more women to purchase land and houses in their own name. This, in turn, is expected to enhance their financial security and increase their participation within families and society. Officials say the initiative could play a transformative role in advancing women’s empowerment.

Reacting to the decision, Jayanti Shukla, a resident of Manendragarh block, described it as a historic and commendable step in the interest of women. She praised Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai for prioritising policies that directly benefit women.

Shukla said such measures would provide women with greater opportunities to become self-reliant and establish a strong identity in society. She added that under the Chief Minister’s leadership, several schemes aimed at uplifting women are being effectively implemented, delivering tangible benefits at the grassroots level.

She also expressed her gratitude to the government for taking what she termed a bold and progressive decision. According to her, initiatives like this not only empower women financially but also instil a sense of ownership and confidence among them.

Despite the positive response, the government has acknowledged that the move is likely to result in a revenue loss of approximately Rs 153 crore. However, it has chosen to prioritise long-term social and economic benefits over short-term fiscal considerations.

Experts believe that the decision will significantly boost women’s participation in property ownership, a domain traditionally dominated by men. Increased ownership rights are expected to lead to greater financial inclusion and improved socio-economic status for women.

Overall, the policy is being hailed as a progressive reform that aligns with the broader goal of gender equality and inclusive growth, potentially setting a benchmark for similar initiatives in other states.
