Telangana Seeks 30 LMT Boiled Rice Procurement for Yasangi Season, Gets In-Principle Nod
Delhi, April 2026 : In a high-level meeting held in New Delhi, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Civil Supplies Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy urged Union Food Minister Prahlad Joshi to procure 30 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of boiled rice from the state during the ongoing Yasangi (rabi) season. The request comes amid strong production estimates and growing national demand for parboiled rice.
Highlighting Telangana’s established expertise in Yasangi paddy milling, the Chief Minister emphasized that the state is well-positioned to contribute significantly to the country’s food grain requirements. He noted that Telangana is expecting an estimated 90 LMT of paddy production this season, underlining its capacity to supply large quantities of rice without disruption.
Citing data from the past six procurement cycles, the Chief Minister pointed to consistent performance in Custom Milled Rice (CMR) production as proof of the state’s suitability for boiled rice output. During the meeting, held at the Union Minister’s residence, the Telangana delegation reiterated that the state has emerged as a national leader in both agricultural output and grain procurement systems.
The state government also presented a detailed supply proposal, offering 30 LMT of boiled rice with 5 percent broken grains and an additional 5 LMT of raw rice with 10 percent broken grains. This, they said, would help strengthen national food security and support buffer stock requirements.
Responding positively to the proposal, Prahlad Joshi granted in-principle approval for the procurement of boiled rice from Telangana. The development is expected to provide a boost to farmers and millers across the state, ensuring better price realization and smoother procurement operations.
During the discussions, the Chief Minister also raised the issue of pending dues amounting to ₹1,468.94 crore from the 2014–15 Kharif season. He urged the Union government to release the funds at the earliest to support the State Civil Supplies Department and maintain financial stability in procurement activities.
Reaffirming the state’s commitment to farmers, Revanth Reddy stated that Telangana ensures payments within 48 hours of procurement, a measure that has strengthened trust among farmers. Additionally, he called for the immediate resumption of Fortified Rice Kernel (FRK) distribution in schools and ICDS centres to address anemia and malnutrition among children.
The meeting was attended by senior officials, including State Special Representative A.P. Jithender Reddy and Secretary (Coordination) Advait Singh, along with officials from the Union Ministry of Food and Public Distribution.
