Revanth Reddy Vows Action Over Kaleshwaram Project ‘Corruption’, Promises Accountability

Hyderabad, April 2026 : Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Monday asserted that those responsible for alleged large-scale corruption in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project will not be spared, promising strict action and accountability. His remarks came after inspecting the Medigadda barrage, a key component of the project, in Jayashankar Bhupalapally district.

Addressing the media, the Chief Minister alleged “unbridled multi-crore corruption” in the execution of the ambitious irrigation project and said all those involved would be brought to justice. He made it clear that the state government is committed to pursuing the matter legally and administratively, irrespective of political affiliations.

Revanth Reddy also indicated that the government is prepared to adopt strategic measures if the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) attempts to shield itself behind the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to evade scrutiny. He referred to the report submitted by the Justice P.C. Ghosh Commission, stating that it provides detailed findings on the alleged misappropriation of funds in the project.

The Chief Minister further claimed that senior BRS leader T. Harish Rao had recently visited Delhi to seek support from BJP leaders, anticipating an inquiry into the project. He alleged that despite media reports about the visit, Harish Rao has not clarified the purpose of his meetings and demanded transparency on the matter.

Taking aim at the BJP-led Union Government, Revanth Reddy criticised the Centre for not ordering a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe despite repeated requests from the state government. He pointed out that a formal resolution seeking a CBI inquiry had already been sent to the Centre. The Chief Minister also highlighted that Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy had earlier demanded a CBI investigation, but no action has followed so far.

Revanth Reddy also targeted former Chief Minister and BRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), criticising him for organising a public meeting on the same day as the official inspection of the Medigadda barrage. He stated that the visit had been planned well in advance with technical experts and officials to assess the condition of the project and chart the way forward.

Despite the controversy, the Chief Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to completing the Kaleshwaram project. He emphasised that the administration would not abandon the project but would instead undertake necessary repairs to ensure it meets drinking water and irrigation requirements.

Highlighting concerns over the project’s structural integrity, Revanth Reddy noted that the Medigadda barrage had collapsed in 2023. He alleged that the previous BRS government concealed critical information about the damage and attempted to gain political advantage during the elections. He also pointed out that the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) had submitted a preliminary report on November 1, 2023, but it was allegedly ignored by the then government.

The Chief Minister further accused KCR of scrapping the earlier Pranahita-Chevella project for political and economic reasons, suggesting that decisions were driven by personal gain rather than public interest.

With strong allegations and counter-allegations intensifying, the issue of the Kaleshwaram project is set to remain a major political flashpoint in Telangana.
