KCR Vows to Scrap HYDRAA if BRS Returns to Power

Hyderabad, April 2026 : Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) president and former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Monday announced that his party would abolish the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) if it is voted back to power in Telangana. Addressing a public rally in Jagtial, he declared that scrapping HYDRAA would be the first decision he would sign upon assuming office again.

The meeting also marked the formal induction of former minister T. Jeevan Reddy into the BRS. Welcoming him into the party, KCR appointed Reddy as a general secretary and expressed confidence that his entry would strengthen the party ahead of future political battles. Jeevan Reddy recently resigned from the ruling Congress party before joining the BRS.

Launching a sharp attack on the Congress government, KCR accused it of using HYDRAA as a tool to demolish the homes of the poor. He alleged that the agency’s actions were causing distress among vulnerable communities and claimed that such measures were unjustified.

The former Chief Minister also criticised the Musi river rejuvenation project proposed by the current government. While stating that he was not against development initiatives, KCR questioned whether the demolition of around 10,000 houses was necessary for the project. He further alleged that the initiative was being used as a pretext for land grabbing.

KCR also raised concerns over the alleged decision of the Congress government to install meters on agricultural motors. He claimed that this move was aimed at securing additional borrowings under the Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management (FRBM) framework. Recalling his tenure, KCR said he had resisted similar pressure from authorities, asserting that he had prioritised farmers’ interests.

Claiming widespread dissatisfaction under the current regime, KCR said that people across the state were unhappy with Congress rule and called for the BRS to return to power. He urged party workers and supporters to renew their commitment to rebuilding Telangana and restoring what he described as effective governance.

Praising Jeevan Reddy, KCR described him as a respected leader and a role model in politics. He highlighted their long-standing friendship of over four decades, noting that despite being in different parties, they had maintained cordial relations. He added that Reddy’s decision to join BRS was driven by a vision for Telangana’s future and cited surveys suggesting that his entry would have a positive impact beyond his constituency.

KCR also took a swipe at Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, criticising him for making remarks against him. He concluded by listing achievements during the BRS tenure and alleged that the current government had failed to introduce any significant new welfare schemes.
