Prime Minister’s Visit to Palghar

On August 30, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for the Gishwan Bandar Project, a major port development. The project, with a total cost of ₹76,000 crores, aims to establish a world-class sea gateway capable of accommodating ultra-large cargo ships, thereby boosting the country’s trade and economic growth.

Located near Dahanu town in Palghar district, the expansion port will become one of the largest deep-water ports in India, offering direct connectivity to international shipping lanes and reducing transportation time and costs. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology and infrastructure, the port will feature deep berths, efficient cargo handling facilities, and modern port management systems. The project is expected to create numerous employment opportunities, boost local businesses, and accelerate the overall economic development of the region. Additionally, the port expansion will focus on sustainable development practices, minimizing environmental impact, and adhering to strict environmental standards. Once operational, the port will enhance India’s maritime connectivity and further strengthen its position as a global trade hub.

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for 218 fisheries projects worth ₹1,560 crores, aiming to enhance infrastructure and productivity in the fisheries sector across the country. These initiatives are expected to generate more than five lakh employment opportunities in the fisheries sector.

Additionally, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the National Ship Communication and Support System, a project costing ₹360 crores. Under this initiative, 1 lakh transponders will be installed on mechanized and motorized fishing vessels in 13 coastal states and Union Territories in a phased manner. Developed by ISRO, this indigenous technology will facilitate two-way communication for fishermen at sea, assist in rescue operations, and ensure their safety.

Other initiatives to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi include the development of fishing ports and integrated aquaparks, as well as the adoption of advanced technologies such as recirculatory aquaculture systems and biofloc. These projects will be implemented across several states and will provide critical infrastructure to enhance fish production, improve management, and create sustainable livelihoods for millions of people involved in the fisheries sector.

Prime Minister Modi will also lay the foundation stone for key fisheries infrastructure projects, including the development, improvement, and modernization of fish ports, the construction of fish landing centers, and fish markets. These efforts aim to provide necessary facilities and hygienic conditions for handling fish and seafood.

Lastly, Prime Minister Modi will address a special session of the Global FinTech Fest (GFF) 2024 in Mumbai. The GFF is jointly organized by the Payments Council of India, the National Payments Corporation of India, and the Fintech Convergence Council. The conference will feature around 800 speakers, including policymakers, regulators, senior bankers, industrialists, and academics from India and various other countries, addressing over 350 sessions. The event will also showcase new ideas in the fintech sector. The GFF 2024 will publish more than 20 study reports and white papers, providing insights and in-depth analysis of the industry, according to a press release from the Prime Minister’s Office.
